Singapore Airlines – Facts & Figures

Singapore Airlines is the flag carrier of Singapore and widely considered to be one of the best airlines in the world, confirmed by regularly winning airline quality awards. They exclusively fly long-haul routes and offer some of the most desirable business and first class cabins in the industry. They were my “home” carrier while I lived in Singapore and one of my favorite airlines! Find out all about Singapore Airline safety and quality ratings, their fleet and destinations.

Singapore Airlines – who are they? Singapore Airlines (airline code SQ) is based out of Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN), regularly voted one of the best airports in the world – and I concur: It’s great to fly in and out of as well as easy to connect through!
They own Silk Air, a full-service short-haul carrier for regional flights with narrow-body planes, that will be integrated into Singapore Airlines over the next few years and have stakes in Scoot Airlines, a low-cost carrier!
Skytrax rates Singapore Airlines as a 5* airline and SQ has been in the Top 3 of the World Airline Awards for each of the last seven years.
Airline Ratings is giving them a perfect 7 (out of 7) safety rating.
SQ has a frequent flyer program, KrisFlyer, and is a member of StarAlliance, the world’s largest airline alliance.

Singapore Airlines Destinations: Singapore Airlines serves 64 destinations in 32 countries around the world. In North America, they fly non-stop to San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York (Newark), the last being the longest flight on Earth with a flight time of almost 19 hours! They also offer connecting flights to New York and Houston via Europe.
In Europe, they serve some of the major European cities, including StarAlliance hubs in Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich, with connections to partner airlines Lufthansa and Swiss. SQ also flies to London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome and Milan, Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
Singapore Airlines is one of the few Asian airlines to serve Africa with flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa.
They also serve a long list of destinations in Asia and the major cities in Australia and New Zealand. The map below also shows flights operated by Silk Air (green) and Scoot (yellow). You are able to book those flights on the same ticket as Singapore Airlines.

Singapore Airlines Fleet: SQ operates a fleet of 126 wide-body planes with an average fleet age of 7.2 years, not the youngest, but much better than the US Airlines.

The Airbus A380 is the flagship of the Singapore Airlines fleet and features their best cabin products, including the stunning First Class Suites below.

Their Boeing B777 feature their “regular”, also excellent First Class I flew in and enjoyed!
For their ultra-long haul routes to the United States, they utilize their new Airbus A350 and Boeing B787 planes, the youngest in their fleet. SQ utilizes a number of older Boeing B747 and Airbus A330 as well.
They feature an excellent Business Class product on all of their planes. They will soon feature fully flat beds on all their planes, including the short-haul Silk Air planes, making it one of the few airlines to offer a consistent Business Class product across their fleet, regardless of the length of the flight! The outstanding service makes Singapore Airlines my favorite business class!

Singapore Airline offers a Premium Economy product on their long-haul Airbus A350, A380 and Boeing B777ER. They offer additional seat-width, more legroom and improved food and service – very welcome on routes of up to 19 hours.

And while Economy Class has become ever tighter, bereft of any perks on many airlines, Singapore Airlines continues to offer a very comfortable Economy Class across their fleet, with more seat width and legroom than most and the same outstanding onboard service – better than what most airlines deliver in their premium cabins.
