Why you should go: Kuala Lumpur, or affectionately called KL, is centrally located in South East Asia and offers some of the cheapest flights across the region, thanks to the World’s best Low-cost carrier, AirAsia! Hotels and food are just as inexpensive, giving you a chance to travel on a budget or enjoy luxury for less! Not convinced yet – find more reasons to visit Kuala Lumpur!

Where to stay: If you are using KL as a springboard and stop-over, staying near KL Sentral is your best bet, with easy train access to the airport and anywhere else in the city! The aloft Sentral is a great mid-range option right next to the station! If you have shopping on your mind, staying in Bukit Bintang, KL Shopping Central, is your best bet – and the Novotel KLCC offers great value.

Where to eat: Kuala Lumpur offers some great street food that’s fun, safe and delicious – the Alor Street Night Market in Bukit Bintang is a great place to start. Looking for a little more comfort – the big malls, like Pavillion, offer great international restaurant choices and you get lots of people watching to boot! My favorite Beef Rendang, a typical Malay dish, is served at Madam Kwan’s!

Things to do: Even if you are using KL as a springboard, I recommend to stay a few days. Enjoy the stunning views from Petronas Twin Towers, walk around historic Merdaka Square or explore the Batu Caves just outside of town or shop till you drop in Bukit Bintang! There is a little to do for every taste!

How to get around: What makes Kuala Lumpur a great starting point to explore South East Asia is how easy it is to get around: You can take the KLIA Ekspress train from the airport into the city. From KL Sentral Station, there are various metro trains to all the sights in and around the city. And if you are looking for a little more comfort, there are taxis and uber all over the city, at low prices, too! You can find a metro map and more tips to get around here!
