The most iconic building of Kuala Lumpur and great view – Petronas Towers

The number one tourist attraction in Kuala Lumpur are the iconic twin Petronas Towers with the KLCC mall at their feet. You can see them from many spots in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysican capital, but they are best explored close-up! You can go for the stunning views from the top, cross the sky bridge famous from the movie Entrapment at the 41st and 42nd level or just enjoy the dining, shopping and entertainment options at the big mall in the complex!

When the Petrona Towers were opened in 1999, they were the highest building in South East Asia at 452m – and they are still one of the most beautiful buildings, with their metal tops reflecting in the sun. You can join a tour of the towers and the skybridge – and it’s well worth it, the Petronas Towers view is stunning. You get a high-speed elevator ride, some great information about the building and priceless views from the top. The walk through the glass-encapsulated skybridge is a unique experience, so bring your camera!

klcc1The KLCC mall at the feet of the towers covers 6 levels with stores from budget to luxury brands. The Japanese department store Isetan and Parkson are the anchor stores and you find many of the global brands in between. One of my favorites is the massive bookstore Kinokuniya – one of the few places left where you can browse among thousands of books!
klcc2Just like in many other Southeast Asian cities, the malls are also hubs of social live with lots of dining options. The Petronas Towers restaurants range from food courts to casual and fine dining; from local favorites to international dishes, there is something for everyone. One of my favorites is Madam Kwan, a casual restaurant serving Malaysian food, as well as their self-service spin-off Ms Kwan – I come just for their awesome Beef Rendang whenever I have a chance – read my full review for pictures and more information!

If you are looking for some entertainment or you brought the kids, there is a movie theater in the complex as well as an interactive museum sponsored by Petronas, the Malaysian oil company and name giver for the towers. There is a small free exhibit as well as a much larger exhibitfor a fee that’ll keep you busy for a while.

And if the weather is not too hot, you can enjoy the park or one of the outdoor restaurants with the towers as a backdrop! But if you want the best pictures of the towers themselves, you need to go a little further for a good shot. Head to the foot of the KL Tower – another spot for great views over KL and look back for some views of the tower. Or you can stay at the Doubletree Hotel and enjoy the best view of the Petronas Towers from the Executive Lounge – check out my recommendations for the best places to stay in Kuala Lumpur for more options!
