The most expensive cities in the world are in Asia, with Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai vying for the top spots. But you’ll also find some of the cheapest cities to book a luxurious 5-star hotels in the region. Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) in Cambodia, one of my most recommended destinations, is the most affordable city in Asia to be pampered in 5-star luxury. Find out the other top cities for inexpensive hotel luxury!

The UK’s Independent published the list based on research of online travel agent Globehunter and I’m not surprised to see Siem Reap high on the list. The city has a lot of competition and hotel bargains are easy to find. You can find 5-star rated hotels for as little as $50/night, making luxury very affordable. I stayed with award points at the very good Le Meridien Angkor!

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is also high up on that list and you can find many of the Western chain hotels for under $70/night – less than a roadside motel in the US. I enjoyed an excellent stay on points at the DoubleTree Hotel!

Five-star hotels in Manila, Philippines, also start under $100, although I’d recommend to pay a little more to stay at my all-time favorite, the Sofitel Manila with its outstanding service and excellent Club Lounge!
