Singapore Airlines recently devalued their KrisFlyer reward program by increasing the number of miles needed for a free flight. But over the last few months, they have offered “Spontaneous Escapes” with discounts on last-minute award flights. This month’s Escapes will take you to destinations in Asia, Australia and Europe at a 30% discount for travel in July!
This round of Spontaneous Escapes is valid for redemptions from now through June 30 2018 for travel July 1-31, 2018. The discount of 30% applies to specific destinations and flights (not all flights to that destination) and only to the points needed. You still have to pay the regular taxes and fees.
The sale starts with one-way fares of 5,250 miles (Economy) from Singaore to Jakarta or Surabaya in Indonesia. Also included are Bangkok or Manila for 8,,750 miles in Economy. Keep in mind that many of these destinations are also served by various low-cost carriers and cash tickets are very cheap, so this still might not be a great deal.
The most interesting options in this sale for me are the flights to Duesseldorf and Frankfurt, Germany, in business class for 59,500 miles. That’s a great deal, especially as Duesseldorf is served by brand-new Airbus A350 and SQ offers my favorite business class service!
