InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) unveiled their Accelerate Promotion of their IHG RewardsClub loyalty program. From September 1 to December 31, 2019, you can earn points for completing personalized tasks, in my case up to 40,000 bonus points. After many IT issues and uninteresting rewards in the last few rounds, this is the worst iteration yet for me and certainly won’t get me to stay with IHG. IHG RewardsClub continuous to offer personalized promotions that are based on your stay history, making them more or less attractive based on how much you stay. In my case for Q4/2019, I’ll have the following goals:
Uh, say what? This is a basic Double Points offer with a cap at 40,000 points. You earn 10 points per USD spent at most IHG properties. This offer doubles it to 20 pt/$. As an IHG RewardsClub Platinum member, I earn a 50% bonus on base points, for a total of 25 pt/$. I value IHG points at 0.5cents/point, so this is a 12.5% rewards rate. That’s not bad – until you realize that you can always get 10% with hotels.com WelcomeRewards, or even 20% !
While I’d be happy to earn double points for stays I have planned with IHG anyway, this is in no way an incentive for me to move stays to the chain.
Alas, while this is not good for me, the IHG Accelerate Promotions can be very rewarding and you should check it out anyway!. I have earned some great bonuses with this program and your promotion might look better than mine!
