I’ve been a member in Singapore Airline’s Kris Flyer rewards program since i lived in Singapore. But it’s worth being a member, even if you don’t live there – and I still am: You can not only earn miles by flying on other StarAlliance carriers, like Lufthansa or United, but also by transferring points from various credit card programs, like Citi Prestige ThankYou points or American Express Member Rewards. Right now, you can get 500 bonus points just for signing up!
The KrisFlyer program (read more here) is especially valuable because Singapore Airlines (SQ) releases more award seats for its own members than for members in other StarAlliance programs, like United MileagePlus. And SQ has my favorite Business Class and one of the best First Class cabins in the world, so it’s worth being a KrisFlyer member to get access to those premium cabin award seats.
Membership in the KrisFlyer program is always free, but right now Singapore Airline’s low-cost subsidiary, Scoot, is offering a bonus for signing up to the program – because you now can also earn KrisFlyer miles by flying Scoot! 500 bonus points is not a lot, but it’s a start and it’s free, so if you wanted to sign up anyway, now is a good time to do it! You can sign up here and use the promotion code “KFLYSCOOT” to get the bonus points!
