InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has released their latest PointBreaks promotion, offering hotels at discounted rates of 5,000/10,000/15,000 points per night – worth $25/50/75. Those are some serious discounts and can be a great deal, if they fit your travel pattern. Find out the best IHG PointBreaks hotels, the terms and conditions and how to book these deals!
IHG Rewards Club runs these promotions on roughly a quarterly basis. This time, they released the list without any of the (previously standard) previews or announcements, on Cyber Monday, the busiest shopping day of the year!
One reason might be that this is the shortest PointBreaks list I can recall with only 107 hotels around the world, about half of the typical list. Only 13 of the hotels are available for 5,000 points/night – there used to be up to 200 of them!
So, while IHG PointBreaks might no longer be the “stop-the-presses” promotion it was, it still offers some good value among the hotels on sale. You can book the current promotion from now as long as they are available for stays through February 28, 2019. You can make two reservations per hotel and look out for the cancellation policy at the individual hotel, if your travel plans are not firm yet. If you don’t have enough points for your stay, you can currently buy IHG Reward Points with a 100% bonus at only 0.5cents/point, exactly at what I value them!
Here are some of the list: The InterContinental Phu Quoc is in one of the hottest beach destinations in Vietnam and available for 15,000 points/night (worth $75). The promotion period aligns with high season, with good weather and the busy Chinese New Year during this period. Weekend rates for a standard room at the resort were around $150 – so the PointBreaks promotion is offering a 50% discount!
The InterContinental Medellin lies in Colombia’s second city. I really enjoyed my trip to Bogota and Cartagena 10 years ago and Medellin is on my list of cities to see on my next trip to the country! Weekend rates during the promotion are around $85/night or 10,000 points/night (worth $50) during the promotion, a discount of over 40%. Rooms look a little old-fashioned, but nice enough at this price!
The Crowne Plaza Hiroshima in Japan is on the list for 15,000points/night. While hotels in Japan can be very expensive, this is winter season in the country and the Crowne Plaza is available for rates around $100/night during the period, a discount of around 30% by using points!
But not all Hotels on the list are a good deal. For example, the Holiday Inn Express Soi Sonvijay in Bangkok is listed for 10,000 points/night – but available for around $40/night cash rates. So, make sure to compare cash and point prices before booking your PointBreaks.
