This week’s Deal Dispatch offers a few great deals for earning and using miles with programs from airberlin, Singapore Airlines and Hilton! Sometimes, you get discounts in the form of lower rates and sometimes as points in the rewards program. If you look at points and miles as just another currency, it can make for some pretty good bargains!
Singapore Airlines (SQ) is frequently offering bonuses for signing up to their frequent flier program “KrisFlyer”. Earlier this year, it was a flat 5,000 just for signing up – a great deal for any non-members. Currently, they are offering an even higher 10,000 points – but only for the lucky 50th person to sign up every day between now and August 31st, 2015. You have a slightly better chance on Singapore’s National Day, August 9th, where every 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th and 50th sign-up earns points. You do have to fly within 3 months from sign-up with SQ or Silk Air to earn the points. If you have no plans to do so, you should wait for the next sign-up promotion. The KrisFlyer program is certainly worth signing up for – SQ is one of the best airlines around, they reserve some of their- very desirable – business and first class seats for their members and you can transfer points from various credit card programs (including Citibank ThankYou points, review here). You can find all the details and registration here! Even if you are not interested in this promotion, it’s worth looking for similar deals – I have signed up for a few programs during promotions and got a head-start on earning points!
airberlin is one of the airline programs I received a bonus (of 1,500 miles), just for signing up. I earned more points without flying and now have plenty for a free flight! The best use for those miles is during the quarterly award sale “topbonus deals” were reward flights are available at a discount. Here are a few examples for the discounted award tickets, one way:
– Berlin – Abu Dhabi:
– Berlin – Chicago:
– Berlin – Duesseldorf:
These quarterly deals can get you a free ticket for as little as 1,500 miles – so the sign-up bonus can get you a free flight already! Keep in mind that airberlin does charge a fuel surcharge so “free” is a little less free in this case. you can find the current sale here. If you are not a member yet, you can sign up with a current bonus of 500 miles here. If you have no plans for an airberlin flight in the near future, I’d wait for a better sign-up bonus!
Hilton frequently has bonus offers and is one of the easier programs to earn points. Currently, in addition to the “Double Points” promotion I reported on here, they are offering 5,000 points per stay through July 6th! As all fixed points bonuses, this promotion offers the best payback on cheap, one-night stays. So, if you are planning a getaway soon, you could consider hotel-hopping between Hilton hotels to maximize your bonus and earn some free nights. You can register here!
