The US Travel Association is going into the third week of their annual Daily Getaway sale today, Monday 20, 2019. The deals in the second week include Best Western Rewards points, vouchers for Omni Hotels and for Vegas casinos, as well as big discounts on hotel bookings through Orbitz! Find the calendar of available deals and my take on who can benefit from the deals below.
The US Travel Association works with travel providers each year to bring deals on hotels, rental cars, amusement parks and more in time for the summer travel season. In past years, it has been a great occasion to stock up on points or vouchers to make your next trips a little cheaper. There are different deals each week – some are so good, they sell out in minutes, other are less interesting and will be available through the end of the sales period. Here is the schedule of daily deals for the first week from today, Monday May 20 to Friday, May 24, 2019:
The best deals this week are for hotels. On Tuesday, May 21, from 1pm EST, you can purchase points in the Best Western Rewards program for stays at any of the Best Western hotels. You can purchase up to 5 packages of 10,000 points for $55/each. I value Best Western Rewards points at 0.6cents/point, so you get almost a 10% discount on the average value. The best value in the last few years has been in winter in the US when all hotels, even in expensive destinations like San Francisco or New York, are available for only 10,000 points/night. I stayed at the very nice BW Cartwright Hotel San Francisco and it was a bargain at that price!
Keep in mind that Best Western Rewards nights can be as high as 36,000 points/night. Best Western uses dynamic pricing, so reward rates are higher during busy times of year, so finding great deals is a little harder than with other hotel programs.
The second interesting deal is the Orbitz voucher worth $1,000 for only $650 – a clean 35% discount on hotel bookings. You have to use the coupon for one reservation with a minimum booking of $1,000, so this works best for a large vacation (or expensive hotel). You can’t reuse the coupon in case you have to cancel, so make sure your travel plans are solid. This is a great discount and very flexible, useful at many hotels, so I expect this deal to sell out quickly!
I don’t recommend the vouchers for Omni hotels or casinos available on other days due to the limitations on the bookings. If you are interested, make sure to read the terms & conditions and have lots of flexibility or your run the risk of loosing the vouchers!
