Chiang Rai first became known as the entry point to the “Golden Triangle” between Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, but today is a wonderful city to visit for his peace & quiet along the river, beautiful mountains and stunning temples.
This Golden Temple is part of the White Temple (confusing, i know) and one of the most impressive sights for any visit to Chiang Rai. To plan your own getaway to Chiang Rai, check out my Weekend Itinerary Chiang Rai!

I love the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, The City of Angels and Thailand’s capital. It’s a city that never stops and the crowds can be overwhelming to first-time visitors. But if you just need to get away from the crowds, fear not, there are plenty of places to escape in the heart of this city and Lumpini Park is one of the biggest and nicest places to go. You can go for a walk through the greenery, watch the sunset over the lake or watch locals exercising or playing volleyball. And then you can dive back into the city life!

Bangkok is a fascinating and lively city. If you have seen the Grand Palace, Wat Po and Wat Arun and want to still learn more about the history of Thailand, you can do an easy day trip to Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Kingdom of Siam that was completely destroyed by the Burmese in 1767, leading to Bangkok becoming the capital. Start your visit with Wat Phra Si Sanphet – the “Temple of the Holy, Splendid Omniscient”.

I’m sure shopping is a contributor to that success. There are so many malls throughout the city center along Sukhumvit Road, from extravagant malls like the EmQuartier above to the old-style markets, everybody will find something!

I recommend pre-paid cards for peace of mind when traveling and using … Continue reading
Updated 2019: The Mercure Bangkok Makkasan is the latest Mercure hotel to open in Bangkok, located near the Airport Rail Link (ARL) Station Makkasan, one stop from Asoke/Sukhumvit. The Mercure has very nice, modern rooms, a nice pool and gym. But the location that sounded great on paper is terrible, forcing a long walk along a busy street next to … Continue reading
The Mercure Bangkok Sukhumvit offers stylish rooms, a big pool and gym and great service at very reasonable prices. There excellent Privilege Lounge made our stay much more luxurious than you’d expect from a mid-scale hotel and we’d be happy to return. The location in the Nana area is central, but not ideal for families. Check out my review and … Continue reading
