One of my favorite hotel rewards promotions is Intercontinental Hotel Group’s (IHG) quarterly PointBreaks promotion: You can book a select number of hotels worldwide for only 5,000 points/night. IHG just released the Winter 2016 promotion and you can book stays until January 2017 – find out where I saved big and great value destinations you could, too!
For this years winter break, I’m going to visit family in Germany and one of the hotels on the PointBreaks list fit right in: The Holiday Inn Express City Centre in Hamburg fits our plans and I booked it for two nights for a total of 10,000 points. This hotel is going for $85/night at the time and without the promotion would be 30,000 points/night – a savings of 65% on the cash rate or 83% on the cash rate!
Many bloggers only look at the more upscale Crowne Plaza or luxury Intercontinental hotels in this promotion, but I think the Holiday Inn Express hotels offer great value – for $30/night you not only get a modern room, but also breakfast included! That alone can cost you $30 for two people in many European or US cities!
A few other hotels on this list stood out for me: The Holiday Inn Dresden is in the old town of Dresden with the beautiful riverfront, the impressive Semper Oper, Zwinger palace and Frauenkirche nearby! The Holiday Inn Montevideo is in the center of Montevideo – a great location to explore the capital of Uruguay! The Holiday Inn Sandton is in one of the nicest parts of Johannesburg, South Africa. And the Holiday Inn Express Sedona is in the pretty mountain town, a great winter destination in Arizona, USA. Surprisingly, the list for Asia is really short this time, nothing stood out for me!
You can book the PointBreaks hotels now for stays through January 2017. You can only make two reservations per hotel (to avoid people booking up the inventory for stays they may or may not make). You can find the full list of hotels available here! I recommend you book quickly as rooms will go fast at these rates.
