Simple food with million-dollar-views – Karsa Kafe, Ubud, Bali

One of our favorite places in Ubud to have a drink or meal (and the only place we went to more than once) is Karsa Kafe. A small place, serving basic food and drinks in the most beautiful place you can imagine: It’s situated on the edge of rice fields and forest with a perfect view from every seat in the restaurant – so, go to eat or have a drink and just read a book or relax. Even better, come for the sunset!

KarsaKafeMapThe best thing about Karsa Kafe is it’s location in the rice fields and that comes at a price – it’s about 30 minutes (2km) from Ubud town on a narrow footpath along the Campuhan Ridge (read about the hike here). If you are staying at the Lokha Resort (reviewed here), it’s a short walk and a nice alternative to eating at the hotel.
We came to the Karsa Kafe the first time on our hike along the ridge and stopped by for a smoothie. We were lucky enough to snatch one of the open air huts and enjoyed a relaxing break from our hike. The views are gorgeous, it’s quiet and peaceful and you can easily forget time looking out over the fields or reading. The staff was friendly and brought our drinks quickly. The smoothies were yummy and refreshing. It’s a long way for the staff to run, so we paid at the counter on our way out.
Ubud - 10We came back for drinks and dinner at sunset, when we stayed at the Lokha Resort. We sat upstairs and had a similarly good view over the fields and the sunset from there. We shared a Caprese salad of tomato and mozzarella, followed by a pizza, together with a local beer. The beer was cold and perfect for the setting. The portions of the salad and pizza were both very large and we were glad we didn’t order anymore food! Both dishes tasted good. While I wouldn’t recommend to make the way out here just for the food, the great view, friendly service and good food together (all at reasonable prices) make it well worth it!
