The new Good Time Boutique Hotel offers modern rooms steps from Otres 1 Beach near Sihanoukvile, Cambodia. With friendly service, a hot breakfast and a cold pool, it’s good value for a comfortable stay on a budget! If you want the best room for your money, the Good Time Boutique Hotel is a good choice – read on to find out if it’ll work for you!
Location: The Good Time Boutique Hotel is on the beach road at Otres 1 Beach, just 30 meters from the ocean. Between the road and the beach are a number of backpacker bars and restaurants that serve drinks and food all day and offer loungers, tables, chairs and umbrellas. There are travel agents, mini-marts and other hotels and restaurants along the unpaved, red-dirt road, so you will be able to find all the essentials for a beach vacation nearby. While the beach is well maintained by the bars, there’s plenty of trash along the road and many buildings are poorly maintained, spoiling the tropical beach idyll. The tuk tuk ride into Sihanoukville is about 20 minutes ($5) and the ride to the airport is 45-60 minutes ($20). This location works best for a beach stay on a budget, but is not ideal if you want to head out to the islands or take advantage of the nightlife or shops in town. The (older) sister property Good Time Resort is 300m down the road, so make sure your taxi driver knows which hotel you are staying at!
Service: I had previously done a site inspection at the hotel and staff was happy to show me around and speaks English well. On arrival, I quickly got the keys to my room as well as all the needed information for the resort. Housekeeping had done a thorough job of cleaning my room, everything was in working order and towels and amenities were provided. They cleaned the room quickly each day, re-filled amenities and replaced towels as appropriate. The restaurant staff was a little shy, but on top of their job and kept the buffet filled and tables cleaned. My check-out was just as quick as check-in and went without a hitch. Overall, service at the Good Time Boutique Hotel was friendly and competent.
Room: The hotel is very new and the rooms are the best part of staying here. My standard room faced the narrow walkway with astroturf between two rows of single-story bungalows and you enter through a sliding glass door. The tile floors are clean, the dark-wood furniture and the blue accent colors look modern and friendly.
The queen-size bed is comfortable with nice sheets, pillows and comforter. There is a long table on the opposing wall, with a cabinet, TV, coffee/tea facilities and mini-fridge, as well as desk chair, if you are planning to get some work done. In the corner is an open closet with a laptop size safe. Next to it is the sink-on-countertop, open to the bedroom.
A glass door separates the bathroom with toilet and shower. The shower is fully glas enclosed and just as clean and modern as the rest of the room. The bathroom also has a large window to the bedroom, making it feel bright and open. There is a curtain if you prefer more privacy.
The room was the reason I picked the Good Time Boutique Hotel after my site inspection – it’s the nicest room I could find in this price category on the beach!
Restaurant & Amenities: Towards the back of the property is a pool with loungers around it. It’s great for a refreshing dip after a hot day.
The open-air restaurant is behind the pool, with some tables under a roof, some outside and all facing the pool. The breakfast is served buffet-style, with a small selection of fruit, bread, coffee and juice. You can order eggs to your liking from the staff, making it a full, hot breakfast. The selection and quality of the food was ok, in line with the price category of the hotel.
Bottomline: You get great, new rooms just steps from Otres Beach at a a good price of $60/night including breakfast.
