The latest IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks promotion is live and you can book more than 140 hotels worldwide at reduced rates of 5,000, 10,000 or 15,000 points per night for stays through November 30, 2018. While IHG PointBreaks is no longer the bargain it used to be, there are a number of high-end hotels on the list, so it might be a great deal for you! Find out participating hotels, rules and conditions below!
Ever since IHG Rewards Club switched from offering all PointBreaks properties at 5,000 points/night to a range of 5,000 – 15,000 points/night, more upscale hotels have been included, but the value is not as great as it used to be.
Here are some of the properties that stand out for me on this list:
The Crowne Plaza Vientiane, Laos, is a new hotel on the edge of town and one of the most luxurious hotels in town. If you are planning a trip to beautiful Luang Prabang, a stop-over in Vientiane, one of the most relaxed capital cities in the world, is a good idea and the Crowne Plaza is good value at 10,000 points!
I have stayed twice at the Holiday Inn Melaka and it’s a nice hotel in the beautiful colonial town of Melaka, Malaysia. The service is great, especially for elite members of IHG Rewards Club, with access to a beautiful lounge! It was great value at the old rate of 5,000/night, but at 10,000 points/night I’d make sure to check cash prices first – you can often stay for around $50/night and save your points for another stay! Read my review of the Holiday Inn Melaka and my impressions of Melaka to entice you to go!
You will also find a number of high-end InterContiental and Indigo properties on the list. In Latin America, the InterContinental San Salvador and the Intercontinental Mendoza, Argentina are available for 10,000 points/night. Cartagena on Colombia’s Caribbean coast is a wonderful city and the InterContinental Cartagena is available for 15,000 points/night!
There are a number of properties on the list for the US and Canada on the list as well. Many are in second or third tier cities or away from the best locations, but if that fits your travel plans, you might find bargains. Similar rules apply for Europe, Africa and the Middle East as well, so check the complete list of available hotels here and find a bargain that fits your plans!
As always, you can make up to 2 reservations per hotel. Check the cancellation period before you do to make sure you are comfortable with them. Also compare cash prices for your stay dates as the point prices, despite the promotion, are not always good value.
IHG now finds it necessary to point out that you cannot sell the reservations or use them for commercial gains – there has been some abuse in Asia – so only book for your own needs!
