Wyndham Garden Hotels are a sub-brand of Wyndham Hotels with over 100 properties, mostly in North America! While the main Wyndham brand is considered upper upscale and focuses on city locations, Wyndham Garden offers simpler hotels in suburban and airport locations. They are not that common, so find out more about who they are and what you can expect from the Wyndham Garden brand!
Who are they? Wyndham Hotels was founded in 1981 in Texas. Wyndham Garden hotels were opened starting in the late 90s for smaller hotels in suburban, airport or business park locations. Wyndham was struggling, lost many of the properties to other brands and eventually sold to become part of Wyndham Worldwide in 2006.
Today, Wyndham Garden hotels are considered upper midscale properties with an Average Daily Rate (ADR) below $100, in the same category as Holiday Inn.
According to Wyndham, Wyndham Garden “…is offering a smart and nurturing experience designed to help guests travel at ease. Hotels offer free Wi-Fi, convenient dining options, inviting lobbies and lounges, and flexible meeting spaces. … Wyndham Garden brings a carefree convenience and peace of mind to both business and leisure travelers.”
That is not the most helpful descriptio and can apply to pretty much any mid-scale hotel in the US. More than 80% of the Wyndham Garden hotels are in the US, but they have ventured into Europe and Asia, away from the typical airport and business park locations.
What experience can I expect? Wyndham Garden are full-service hotels, offering casual dining options. That differentiates the hotels from most of the brands in this price category that are limited service hotels without restaurants, like Hampton Inn or Comfort Inn.
It is also one of the more modern brands in the Wyndham group, so you are more likely to find a new-built hotel or recently renovated and modern property, rather than a tired roadside motel like with other midscale Wyndham brands.
The prototype for a newly built Wyndham Garden uses modern hardwood floors, fresh colors and modern bathrooms.
I inspected the Wyndham Garden Bali and was positively surprised by the upscale decor, furniture and fittings. It was one of the nicer Wyndham properties I have seen lately and I’m looking forward to trying it out during a stay!
