Luxury Retreat in the heart of historic Hoi An, Vietnam: Hotel Royal MGallery by Sofitel

The Royal Hotel Hoi An MGallery by Sofitel commands a perfect location  with great views over the river and in walking distance of the old town. You have a choice of classic and modern rooms, have access to nice amenities like the pool, gym and rooftop bar. The service of the team giving me the tour was outstanding, in line with expectations for a luxury property managed by Sofitel and very promising for a future stay.

Location: The Hotel Royal Hoi An has a great location, right on the river in the old town of Hoi An. You can have a beautiful sunset view over the river from some rooms as well as from the rooftop bar and pool. The promenade for a stroll along the river is right outside the hotel and the old town with countless bars, restaurants, shops and the market is minutes away. The Hoi An beaches, like Anbang, are about 30 minutes by bike and the Da Nang airport is 45-60 minutes away by car.

Room: The Mgallery by Sofitel Hoi An stretches over 2 buildings and offers rooms in multiple categories. Deluxe (standard) Rooms face the back street, Grand Deluxe rooms and suites face the river – and that’s an upgrade worth paying for.

Hotel Royal River View

The Deluxe rooms are available in a more traditional decor, with dark hard wood floors and a beige/brown color scheme. The room is dominated by the romantic four-poster bed. A red sofa set a color accent. Large windows bring in light and you get a gorgeous river view.

The bathroom is also held in dark colors, has its own window and a bathtub with a view!

The rooms, depending on the wing, are also available in a more modern decor, held in white and bright colors. Some rooms are held in white & blue, while the suite I was able to view was white and lavender.  It had a king-size bed in the large bedroom with a curved wall full of windows looking out over the river. A small desk under the window could be used to do some work, although the view might be distracting.

The living room had a large dining table with seating for six and a sofa. The room was spacious enough to entertain a group of guests.

The bathroom was also large and flooded with light. A huge, deep soaking tub is the center piece. You’ll have a double vanity as well as two cubicles with frosted glass, one for a toilet and one for a rainfall shower.

Restaurant & Amenities: The standout feature of the Royal Hotel Hoi An for me is the rooftop pool. It is long enough to swim laps or to just take a refreshing dip in the pool after a day out around town. There are loungers along the pool to relax and enjoy the views. D

The rooftop bar is open to non-hotel guests and worth a visit. In case you haven’t picked up on it, I really enjoyed the views – it’s the best place in Hoi An to enjoy the sunset. You can sit around the bar or along the railing and offer from a full bar menu of drinks – the bartender makes some pretty good cocktails, too!

The hotel also offers an Executive Lounge, available to guests staying in ??? rooms or Accor LeClub Platinum members. It’s a beautiful, peaceful space that offers breakfast, afternoon tea or an evening cocktail hour.

The main restaurant Faifo is on the ground floor, offering breakfast lunch or dinner and you’ll find another bar on the lounge level, just below the pool area.

The main pool is on the ground floor facing the river and you also have access to the hotel fitness center.

Value & Rewards: The Royal Hotel Hoi An MGallery managed by Sofitel participates in the Accor LeClub rewards program, so you can earn and redeem points in the program. You get a 5% discount as an Accor LeClub member and a 10% discount as an AccorPlus member. As a Platinum member, you’ll have access to the beautiful executive lounge, with complimentary breakfast and a cocktail hour.
I didn’t get a chance to stay at the Royal Hotel during my last visit, but did a site inspection for a return visit to Hoi An. At a price of $95/night, I’d consider the Royal Hotel Hoi An very good value. You can check the current prices here!

Bottomline: The Royal Hotel Hoi An MGallery by Sofitel commands a perfect location  with great views over the river and in walking distance of the old town. You have a choice of classic and modern rooms, have access to nice amenities like the pool, gym and rooftop bar. The service of the team giving me the tour was outstanding, in line with expectations for a luxury property managed by Sofitel and very promising for a future stay.
If you want to make your stay in Hoi An special, with a touch of luxury, the Royal Hotel Hoi An is a great choice – I can recommend it and look forward to staying myself!
