Deal Dispatch: IHG PointBreaks list is out – hotels around the world from 5,000 points!

Intercontinental Hotel Group’s (IHG) is running its quarterly PointBreaks promotion for members of the IHG Rewards Club. More than 100 hotels around the world can be booked from January 30th through the end of April for only 5,000 points – a cash value of $30! This can be a huge discount and is often the best use of IHG Rewards Club points. Check out the full list of hotels and my personal favorites below! And be quick to book – the best ones will sell out within hours!

This is one of my favorite promotions in the Points & Miles world and I have had some great, cheap stays thanks to it – like at the Holiday Inn Helsinki during my Baltic Explorer! Hotels will become bookable on Monday, January 30th and the full list will be out around noon US time – you can find it here!
But often, the hotels will be loaded into the system before the list is set to “life”, so you should try the hotels you really want to book as soon as you can. You can make up to two reservations at each hotel. Keep in mind that if you need to make changes, you will pay whatever price is available at that time. Also, once a room is cancelled, it does not go back into the Point Breaks inventory, so I recommend not to make speculative bookings “just in case” without actual travel plans and then cancelling later – you’ll take away availability from people who actually want to go!

Here are some of my favorites on this quarter’s list:

Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom – this hotel is currently around $60/night, so roughly a 50% discount. While I prefer the Holiday Inn Express Sathorn, HIX Siam and HIX Sukhumvit 11 for their locations, at this rate it’s a good deal for Bangkok, the City of Angels, and I’d book it in a heartbeat.
Holiday Inn Sandton – Rivonia Road – this hotel is in a good location, nice part of town and a good base for a visit to Johannesburg, South Africa. Jo’burg is a good starting point for trips to Kruger National Park or an adventure from Cape Town to Victoria Falls!
Crowne Plaza San Jose Corobici Conference Center – San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, is also worth a trip. You’ll be close to the sights of the capital and can easily arrange trips to the tropical rainforest with one of the most diverse flora and fauna in the Americas or the beaches!
Candlewood Suites Anaheim – Resort Area – Disneyland is not really high on my list, but if you have Mickey Mouse on your family travel itinerary, this Candlewood Suites near the amusement park might make that expensive trip a little more affordable!
Holiday Inn Dresden – City South – Dresden is one of the most beautiful – and most underrated – cities in Germany. While this Holiday Inn is in a suburb, you can be in the historic old town in 10 minutes by bus and enjoy the sights or attend the amazing Semper Oper for a unforgettable opera performance!
Holiday Inn Frankfurt Airport – Frankfurt is Lufthansa‘s hub, connecting you to destinations all around Europe and the world. This hotel is right next to the terminal, making it a good stop-over on your trip. With great public transportation, it’s easy to explore Frankfurt or popular Heidelberg by train on a budget!
Crowne Plaza Bratislava – Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia and not far from Vienna, is on my list of places to visit. I wished this had been on the list during my summer trip and I’d been first to book! This is one case where I’d let the hotel promotion drive my travel plans!
Hotel Indigo Krakow – Old Town – Krakow is a beautiful city I’d recommend to visit and the Hotel Indigo is in a perfect location to explore it. At this price, it’s a bargain and I’d recommend to check it out!
