I wrote last week that hotel and airline reward points seem to be constantly on sale – and sure enough, IHG Hotels is launching another sale for points in their IHG Rewards Club. You get a targeted “Mystery Bonus” of up to 100%, reducing the price to 0.5 cents/point! Find out how good a deal that is and where to find your mystery bonus!
If you are targeted for the 100% bonus, the price of 0.5 cents/point is pretty good. I value IHG points at 0.5 ct/pt, so you should be able to use the points for a small discount by using these points. Keep in mind that you can always buy points through the Cash & Points Rate trick for as little as 0.575 ct/pt. And some promotions have offered prices a little lower than this.
The best use of IHG Rewards Club points is during the quarterly PointBreaks Promotions, with rooms for as little as 5,000 points/night (read about the current PointBreaks Promotion).
I’ve also used IHG points during high priced periods or in very expensive destinations and found good deals on points.
Because you always run the risk of a point devaluation without notice, I don’t recommend to buy points speculatively. You should have a plan for a high-value redemption before you buy!
If this sounds like a good deal, you can check your own mystery bonus here!
