Basic Apartment Hotel in a good location offering great value in expensive Sydney – Quest Potts Point

For my sister’s first trip to Sydney, we needed a reasonably priced hotel in a central location with easy access to the sights of downtown as well as the beaches, that is modern and clean. Based on online reviews, we picked the Quest Potts Point – and it delivered on the expectations!

Location: The Quest Potts Point is a 5 minute walk from the King’s Cross subway station, giving you easy access to anywhere in the Sydney area. It’s about 40 minutes by train (or taxi) from the Sydney Airport or 10 minutes by train to Town Hall in the city center. You can reach Bondi Beach in about 45 minutes. There are lots of restaurants, bars and shops in walking distance from the hotel, including the fun Darlinghurst neighborhood, making it a great base to explore Sydney!

Service: Quest offers apartment hotels, comparable with long-stay hotels in the US, offering what I’d consider “limited services”. The staff at the hotel is professional and handled check-in, check-out and any requests well. They were available to answer questions and provide advice as needed. They seemed a little brusk at times, I’d call that average for Australia. Housekeeping did a good job with the room each day, leaving it clean and well supplied.

Room: My sister picked a Studio Deluxe, one of the larger rooms available at about 28sqm. It has a queen-size bed to the left after entering. It’s comfortable with nice sheets and comforter. A couch and a table are opposite under the windows, but there is not much of a view. To the left is a fully equipped kitchenette with a full-size fridge, cooktop and oven, a microwave, sink and even a dishwasher!
The bathroom is on the right side – it’s long and narrow and you enter it through a sliding door.  The toilet on one side, the sink in the center and the shower to the other side. The shower is partly enclosed with frosted glass, making the bathroom bright and the room modern looking!
The room also has a small wardrobe with a safe as well as a TV. All of it was clean and in good working condition. Overall, this room was a plenty big and well equipped for a longer stay!

Restaurant/Amenities: As a basic long-stay hotel, there are not a lot of amenities: There is a rooftop terrace and a BBQ area, but not much else. No gym, no pool and no onsite restaurant.

Bottomline: For a rate of $120 you get a simple, modern room with a full kitchen in a great location, making it a great deal to explore Sydney on a longer stay. I’d be happy to stay there and recommend you check it out. Prices can vary greatly – if it is a lot more than during this stay, I’d check for alternatives! If you are expecting more services and amenities, you’ll have to look elsewhere – and pay a lot more.
