Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach Review

Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach is the latest IHG Hotel on Bali and  the first Indigo Resort. It has a great beachside location in the heart of the Seminyak action, and a selection of luxurious rooms, suites and private Pool Villas with butler service. You also find a kid-friendly pool, a quiet pool, gym, spa and great bars and restaurants on site. All of this is available at reasonable prices or a great deal on IHG Rewards Club points. We loved our stay and declared it our new Bali favorite. I wholeheartedly recommend the Indigo Bali Seminyak for your next trip to Bali!

Location: Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach is located near popular Double Six beach, one of the best spots on the long stretch of sand from Kuto to Petitenget. While it is right off the beach, you have to leave the hotel grounds and cross the road to get to the beach, similar to other hotels in this area, as the beaches are all public! Seminyak is my favorite area and there are lots of nice bars, restaurants and shops in walking distance – it’s a little more upscale than the Southern beach neighbors Legian and Kuta and more accessible than Petitenget. The airport is about 45 minutes by taxi/grab. Keep in mind that this area is not ideal for sightseeing around the island – it take a while to get out of the beach area to the main roads!

Service: We received a warm welcome at the entrance by the bell staff and directed to the reception desk. The front desk staff was just as friendly, took our reservation information and asked us to take a seat in the lobby. As soon as we sat down, we received a welcome drink and a cold towel, always a nice touch at a tropical destination. Shortly after, the front desk agent came to our table to complete the check-in procedure, sign forms and provide us all the necessary information about the Indigo Seminyak, its amenities and the neighborhood. He thanked us for our IHG Rewards Platinum status and was proud to inform us that we had received a triple-upgrade to a Patio Room – more about that later. He handed us of to another staff member to escort us to our room – the hotel is big, divided into many sections separated by ponds and trees, so the guide was appreciated. He pointed out some of the amenities of the property, before giving us the tour of the room, including the room amenities.

Housekeeping provided two daily services. The room has a button to request housekeeping, triggering no light outside, but seemingly a notification to the department. Consequently, our room was serviced quickly each day when we asked for it. They did a thorough job, leaving the room spotlessly clean each day, replacing toiletries, coffee/tea, towels and sheets as needed.
Staff at the pools and gym was just as friendly and attentive. Staff would take us to available seats around the pool, provide us with beach towels and stop by with cold water or cold towels. They also have food and drink menus available and will serve it at your leisure right to your lounger.
The fabulous service continued at the restaurants. Staff was friendly and attentive, taking us to our desired table. They explained the breakfast buffet options and also took orders for eggs, fruit, juices or coffee at the table, delivering it quickly. We had picked a quiet, outside table with a view of the gardens and appreciated not to have to go back and forth to the buffet for everything. The staff was on top of the buffet as well and kept everything well stocked and nicely presented.
On our last day we asked a staff member we met on the grounds about the Private Villas of the property – as we hadn’t seen them during our 5-night stay. She stopped what she was doing, offered us an impromptu tour of the villas and took us in a golf cart to see a 1-bedroom villa with private pool in a secluded part of the resort – more on that below.
I have high expectations with regards to service at a 5-star hotel and the Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach exceeded them. Staff was exceptionally friendly, even by high Bali standards, always offering a smile, even when just walking by. They were also without exception well trained and professional, showing a great deal of attention to detail and going beyond the call. Everybody at the Indigo seemed to enjoy their job and be proud of their resort. We encountered not a single service issue during our stay – putting the Indigo Bali on the same level as much more expensive luxury hotels around the world!

Room: The Indigo Bali Seminyak has four standard room, categories, suites and private villas. We were upgraded to a Patio King Room in a corner location. Before you get too excited about a triple upgrade you should know that the four standard room categories are pretty much all the same room, just differentiated by their location in the resort, with Classic Rooms, Neighborhood Rooms (upper level, city view), Oasis Rooms (upper level, garden/pool view) and Patio Rooms (ground floor, private patio, garden or pool access). All of them are large at approx. 50 sqm (540 sft)
Our room was on the edge of the resort, very quiet with trees and bushes surrounding our patio for privacy. The plants were still a little thin, allowing passersby a view onto our balcony. It has a large padded, double swing on it to relax out side.
You enter the room through a small lobby that has the bar with a pod-style coffee maker, a french press, water kettle and tea/coffee choices.

You’ll also find a fruit press, shaker and little guide to make your own, locally inspired cocktails – a nice touch for a resort destinations! The cabinet also holds a mini-bar with some space for your own drinks.

Off the lobby is a walk-in closet the size of a New York hotel room, with plenty of benches, shelves and hanging space of a long vacation worth of clothes. You’ll also find a small make-up table & stool, as well as a large, lit safe, iron and iron board here.

The bedroom is la and beautifully designed, with rich hardwood floors, high-quality cabinets and furniture, deep rugs around the bed, spots of color and nice local artwork. It all adds up to a very contemporary, upscale room with just enough of a local feel to fit perfectly into Seminyak!

The king-size bed had one of the most comfortable mattresses, topper and sheets I’ve slept in for a while – move over, Westin Heavenly Bed! It’s modern, too, and you’ll have universal power outlets and USB ports on each side of the bed, so your smartphone is never out of reach, unless you want to and lock it up in the safe for the duration of your stay!

Near the window is a seating area with a sofa and glass coffee table. It was set with a plate of pastries for our welcome, under a cover inspired by local bird cages!

Opposite the couch are a desk with chair and a large smart TV. It offers plenty of TV channels from around the world and hotel services that go beyond check-out: You can for example order toiletries online and they’ll be brought to your room!

You enter the bathroom through large double sliding wood doors. On one side is a separate toilet with door. The toilet is outfitted with a Toto bidet toilet seat. In the center is a large vanity with a sink in the counter-top and plenty of space for your toiletries on top or the shelves below. On the other side is a large walk-in shower with a full glass enclosure and a view onto your patio. Due to the still slightly thin plant coverage of this new hotel, it wasn’t as private as I wanted it to be and there are blinds to close the window. You have a choice of a hand-held shower head, mounted on the wall or a rain-shower head under the ceiling.

The towels are thick and soft and a full set of toiletries, including dental and shaving kit are provided. The toiletries are Sava brand, of high quality and presented in ceramic dispensers, making it booth look upscale and eco-friendly.

For an even more luxurious experience, you can treat yourself to a suite or a Private Pool Villa! The villas are like a resort in the resort, with 15 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom villas in a secluded area of the resort. The 2 two-bedroom villas can be joined to one 4-bedroom villa with two pools, if you are a Sheikh! You receive golf cart service to take you there or it’s a short stroll to the restaurants and beach.
We got the tour of a one-bedroom villa during our stay and they are simply stunning. Each villa is surrounded by privacy walls and trees and you enter through your own gate. Each has a long, private pool with a built-in jacuzzi at the end.

There are two loungers in the sun as well as a daybed and dining table in a small pavillion outside.

The villa itself stretches the length of the pool. You enter through the living room with a sofa at the food of the king-size bed in the center, facing the door. Behind the bed is a large desk with chair, although I don’t think I’d want to work here!

Past the desk you walk through doors into the dressing and bathroom. You have two vanities, one on each side, and walk through to a deep soaking tub in the center, a shower on one side and toilet on the other. The marble floors and rich wood provide an impression of utter luxury.

The look and feel of the villa is just opulent and are a fantastic choice for a honeymoon or special occasion!

Restaurants & Amenities: The Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach is beautifully designed and landscaped. The resort is spread out over a number of buildings, all separated by courtyards with pools and trees, masking the size of the property. The trees surrounding the buildings and lush gardens give you a tropical resort feeling miles away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding town – that’s a difficult feeling to achieve in Southern Bali!
At the center of the property is a long, narrow pool stretching towards the ocean with plenty of loungers around it. Built into the wall you see on the left are cabanas with beds big enough for two people and offering great privacy and peace despite the busy pool. There is a separate, shallow kiddie pool as well as a small “rainfall cave” next to it, great for families.

Next to the kids pool is the kids activity area. It’s located upstairs, so despite being close, it kept the noise in check.

You don’t ever have to leave the pool area – right next to it is the Cave Pool Lounge, serving drinks and food to your lounger all day.

Between the pool and the beach is a grassy area with additional loungers and cabanas with an ocean view. The degree of separation again makes it feel much more private than you’d assume from the size.

And if all that is not private enough for you, there is a Privacy Pool (or quiet or adult pool). It was our favorite, surrounded by trees and greenery, with fountains all around creating white noise. Loungers and cabanas are tucked in among the trees, so you’d never know other people are around.

The Indigo Bali also has a gym, with limited cardio and weight equipment. You’ll also find free weights and T-REX bands, so you can get a full body workout. A trainer is on-hand full time to assist.

If you truly want to be pampered, check out the Sava Spa on property. It’s located across from the lobby in a secluded part of the resort. They take their wellness treatments seriously: You are welcomed by the staff and guided to the consultation area to review your physical history and needs, the treatment you desire and any special requests, areas to avoid, etc. You can relax with a tea while you wait for your treatment. The treatment rooms are large and luxurious, mine had two massage tables with a soft top and comfortable head craddle, as well as two, deep soaking tubs. My 90 minute massage started with a foot bath, followed by a bell ritual and an excellent massage. I was taken to a relaxing room, with loungers, surrounded by tall walls with a water feature, open to the sky. If you arrive stressed at the Hotel Indigo, a visit to Sava Spa this will leave you relaxed. This luxurious pampering comes at a steep price, several times what a local spa outside will charge (without offering even remotely similar surroundings of course).

The main restaurant, Makase, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has a main kitchen area that provides the buffet with a feeling of a high-end private kitchen. A make-to-order open kitchen is in the center, preparing eggs, pancakes waffles and other dishes. Along the walls are built-in fridges with glass doors, offering anything from fresh juices and fruits to yogurts or cold cuts and cheeses.
Pastries and bread are provided on tables along the room. You’ll find a large variety of high-qualityitems, as I’d expect it from a 5-star hotel in Asia.
Seating is spread out over several indoor area with a few tables each, providing more the feeling of a library or local coffee shop than the breakfast room of a major hotel. There are also several outdoor dining areas you can utilize. We picked an outside patio with a few over the gardens towards the ocean.
Next door is the Pottery Cafe, serving coffee and pastries at a reasonable price, if you prefer a small breakfast or just need a shot of caffeine during the day. The space has the feel of a San Francisco coffee shop and the croissants and coffee were excellent.
The TreeTop Bar faces the gardens and is open-air, with indoor and outdoor seating. They offer a happy hour as well as live music, so you can start your evening here! We only had some welcome bubblies here, but I’d be happy to spend a happy hour or three there!
The Salon Bali opened during our stay and offers a Balinese fine dining experience. We didn’t get a chance to try it.
Scheduled to be open by October 2018, the Sugar Sands beach club looked very inviting. With a small pool, loungers, bar and restaurant overlooking the beach, it’s a great place to start the party if you are in Seminyak for the nightlife!

Value & Rewards: Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach started last years with rates of over $300/night, which I considered steep for Bali. They have since become much more competitive and were $240/night when we booked and as low as $200/night going forward. I consider that good value for an upscale, beachfront property in the heart of Seminyak. You can check find the best prices for your dates here!
If you are an IHG Rewards Club member, you can stay for only 30,000 points/night (worth $150) – which I’d consider great value! Given that you can frequently purchase IHG points for only 0.5 cents/point, it’s a great option even if you don’t have enough points for a stay and it puts a cap on the price during high-season when prices can skyrocket in Seminyak!
The Private Pool Villas are fantastic, but come at a price of around $600/night. That’s steep, but due to the size and quality of the villas, I’d consider that good value compared to other Western luxury hotels on the island and a bargain compared to villas on Bora Bora or the Maldives that are as luxurious.

Bottomline: Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach is in a great location just steps from the waves and set in a lush, tropical garden setting for a peaceful vacation with access to Bali’s bustling nightlife on its doorsteps. The large rooms have local design touches without a chain hotel feeling. The restaurant choices, luxurious spa and chic public spaces provide a luxurious experience. And the private pool and lush greenery give you the feeling of an isolated tropical resort. Splurge on a Private Pool Villa, and you have a tropical paradise! Neither my site inspection last year nor the online photos do the Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach justice – it’s much more beautiful when you experience it and I recommend you do!
