You probably have heard about Lufthansa, the German flag-carrier. Want to know more about how large they really are? What experience to expect onboard their planes in Economy or Business Class? Or whether it is worth joining their rewards program? Read on to find out!

LH B747_8Facts & Figures: Deutsche Lufthansa (LH) is one of the largest, global airlines and has hubs in Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC), serving more than 200 destinations with a fleet of 265 planes.
SkyTrax rates Lufthansa as a 4-star airline (out of 5) and put them in the Top 10 airlines last in 2014, way ahead of the big US carriers.
AirlineRatings gives them a perfect 7 of 7 safety rating, so you will be in good hands.
You can find all the facts and figures about their destinations, fleet and whether you should care, in my detailed post here!

LH Business Seat1The Experience: I consider Lufthansa is a full-service network carrier with a dense network of destinations in Europe and around the world. I consider them a premium airline and they offer Economy, Premium Economy, Business Class and First Class, depending on the route and plane used. Short-haul flights offer a “European” Business Class, basically Economy Class seats with an empty middle seat, food and drink served, as well as a regular Economy Class. Long-haul flights offer a Business Class with fully-flat seats on every flight (read my review here) as well as a First Class on select planes, mostly operating out of their hub in Frankfurt! Lufthansa is one of the few airlines that understand an end-to-end experience, offering very good business class lounges (for example their Frankfurt Lounge) and their world-class First Class Terminal in Frankfurt with Porsche/Mercedes limousine service to the planes!

LH MilesMore LogoThe Rewards: Lufthansa also has an extensive rewards program, miles & more. You can earn and redeem miles with StarAlliance airline partners as well as countless hotel, car rental and merchant partners. You’ll also be able to earn points with credit cards! Lufthansa’s elite levels are difficult to achieve, with Senator (StarAlliance Gold) requiring 100,000 miles and HON Circle a stunning 600,000 miles over two years! Given the vast number of partners, it’s a program interesting even if you are not living in Germany – you can find out more here!
