Rambutan Resort is a mid-range boutique hotel near Siem Reap’s old town. It’s a great base to explore the temples of Angkor Wat or the nightlife of the old town. Service is exceedingly friendly, you get stylish rooms with a relaxing outdoor tub and have access to a pool and spa! It’s good value, too, making Rambutan Siem Reap an easy recommendation for independent travelers to Angkor Wat.
Location: Rambutan is located just across the river from the old town with all the bars and restaurants. It’s close enough to walk there in a few minutes – and far enough to enjoy some peace & quiet by the pool. The ride from the airport by tuk tuk or taxi is about 30 minutes and all the temples are easy to reach. This makes it a great location for a visit to Siem Reap, if you want to see the temples and enjoy the nightlife in town. The streets in the area are safe to walk at night.
Service: Staff was friendly, attentive and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel organized an airport pickup, the driver was waiting for us on time and proved to be a great find – I have used his serviced many times since and recommend him on my Getting Around Siem Reap post.
Check-in was quick and easy and we received all the information we needed for our short stay. Housekeeping had done a nice job cleaning our room – everything was in good condition with towels and amenities properly stocked. Staff at the restaurant was just as friendly, took our breakfast order and had it to our table quickly.
When I returned recently for a site inspection, staff was just as helpful and gave me the tour of the rooms and property, answering all my questions.
Room: We had booked a Deluxe Terrace room and were assigned a high level room. It has a large King-size platform bed at the center, with a heavy wood frame. You’ll get a small chair in the corner as well as a desk and chair to do some work. You’ll find some local touches in the design, as well as some modern, funky artwork in your room and throughout the resort!
The bathroom has a sink-in-countertop with lots of space for your stuff, a toilet and a large shower cubicle with a partial wall.
My favorite feature of the room is the large balcony with seating and a deep soaking tub. It has plants and shutters to provide privacy, making it a very relaxing place to have a bath after a long day of touring the ruins. If you do plan on outdoor baths, ask for a top-floor room for maximum privacy.
Restaurant & Amenities: Rambutan has a small restaurant and bar on the ground floor, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast is served a-la-cart with a few choices to fit your needs. The portions were fine for us, but it’s not as much food as an open buffet.
The pool is another nice feature of the resort. It’s surrounded by the hotel buildings, with plenty of trees for a tropical resort feeling, rather than the city-hotel it actually is! There are loungers and towels provided.
Rambutan also has an onsite spa, offering various massage treatments, but we didn’t try it on our short visit.
Bottomline: Rambutan Resort is a nice boutique hotel with exceedingly friendly staff and a perfect location to see the temples of Angkor and to take advantage of restaurants, bars, shops and spas in the old town. The small size of the resort keeps it private, you’ll avoid the tour groups here! I went back recently to check it out and the property is well maintained, keeping everything nice & clean. At a rate off around $60 in high-season, including airport transport and breakfast, it’s good value. I recommend it and would happiily stay again myself!
