One of my favorite Italian restaurants in Singapore during the time I lived there was DaPaolo. They have multiple locations, including Holland Village and a beautiful, black & white colonial building in Rochester. On our last return visit to Singapore, we picked the DaPaolo on Club Street for an evening out – and it was as good as we remembered it.
The DaPaolo on Club Street is centrally located, near Clarke Quay, Chinatown and the many bars and clubs on and around Club Street. You can easily combine some pre-dinner drinks with a dinner here and a visit to one of the clubs nearby afterwards! DaPalo has a few tables outside as well as indoor seating. We wanted to enjoy the people watching along Club Street and picked an outdoor table. Service was professional and we received our menus pretty quickly. While our favorite DaPaolo in Rochester is more of a Pizza place, the DaPaolo on Club Street excels at pasta dishes. We ordered the buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes as a starter to share and one of the pasta dishes each as the main course. I went for the homemade veal ravioli. We each picked a wine to go with our meal.
The wine arrived pretty quickly and, as usual in Singapore, the pours are small and the quality is so-so at steep prices. The buffalo mozzarella was excellent – some of the best quality mozzarella I’ve found in Asia! We both enjoyed it. The portion is very small, so if you are hungry, sharing is not a good idea! DaPaolo gets the pacing of the food right, not very common even in expensive restaurants in Singapore, and the main courses arrived soon after we finished. My ravioli were excellent, both the consistency and taste of the ravioli as well as the jus it came with. The pasta portions are also rather petite, so we had room for dessert and picked the chocolate cake with strawberries and cream to finish our meal.
Overall, it was another delicious meal at DaPalos. We enjoyed the food, the service and the lively location. Fortunately, the weather was not too hot, so sitting outside was fun. Singapore is an expensive city, so the excellent food comes at a price. It was worth it to us to celebrate a return visit to Singapore and have a fun evening!
