You start your trip with a flight to Singapore, Asia for Beginners. It is a thoroughly modern city, with English as the first language and great public transportation, making it easy to explore. Hotels in Singapore are expensive, so you check into a mid-scale hotel like the Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay or Orchard Road as your base. You take in the diverse history with Malay, Chinese, Indian and European roots, take pictures of stunning architecture and relax in the fascinating Gardens by the Bay!
After three nights of adjusting to Asia, you go off the beaten path to Yogyakarta in Indonesia. You stay at a 5-star hotel like the Phoenix Hotel or Grand Aston and enjoy the upscale service without the price tag! You visit the largest Buddhist temple at Borobudur and the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia at Prambanan, all with fewer tourists than you’ll find in Angkor Wat, Cambodia, or even Bagan, Myanmar! You hang out with the friendly locals in the markets and share the tasty food!
Now, it’s time to relax a little and head to the beautiful beaches of the Gili Islands. You take the short flight to Bali and connect to a speedboat to whisk you away from the crowds, checking into a small island resort right on the beach, like the Vamana Resort for 4 nights of beach bliss with sand between your toes, scuba diving and romantic dinners on the beach!
Before it is time to head home, you have one more stop over in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. You are staying at the centrally located aloft hotel Sentral, giving you easy access to sights and shopping by train. You visit the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and hold your breath when you look down from the sky bridge onto the city. You have time to buy some gifts for family and friends at the markets and malls of the city. The high-speed train whisks you to the modern airport to board your flight home.
You have experienced three very distinct cities in South East Asia, witnessed history from centuries and stored enough sunshine on the remote beaches of the Gili Islands to get you through the rest of the European winter!
