Deal Dispatch: Air China flights to Asia under $500, current hotel promotions

This week’s Deal Dispatch brings you a number of great flight deals on Air China, flying from a number of US destinations to Asia, starting under $500 round-trip. You’ll also find a summary of the fall promotions by the big hotel chains!

Flights: Air China has another fare sale for flights from North America to Asia. They are a StarAlliance carrier, so you can earn miles on United, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways or others! Here are some fare samples:
$489   San Francisco – Hong Kong
$515   Newark – Hong Kong
$609   Los Angeles – Bangkok
$544   San Francisco – Manila
GrandPalaceHallsMediumAll three cities have a lot to offer and have lots of low-cost carrier connections, if you want to explore more of Asia. Bangkok, the City of Angels, has easy connections to Angkor Wat, Bagan or the beaches, like Ko Samui, via AirAsia and others. Manila is the gateway to the beautiful beaches in the Philippines, like Coron, Boracay or Samal, via Cebu Pacific or Philippine Airlines!
You can find the best connection for you on airfarewatchdog – just enter your destination and departure cities and go!

Hotels: It’s time for an overview of the current hotel promotions. With high occupation rates at hotels, the promotions have become less attractive, so it pays to look around, who offers the most for your travel money:
pullmanLegian RoofPoolAccor Hotels has launched it’s latest SuperSale with prices of up to 40% off! You can book through October 16th for stays from November 1 – April 30, 2016! I found the Accor prices to be true discounts and not – looking at you Starwood – high discounts of rack rates nobody pays anyway, resulting in minuscule discounts of current prices. It’s a global sale and you have 2,800 hotels to choose from, but a lot of ibis hotels are excluded (see the full list here).
IHG is still running the “Accelerate” promotion (sign up here) for stays through December 31st, 2015. As with similar promotions, your promotion depends on your personal stay history and is usually better, if you haven’t stayed a lot with them recently. You can earn up to 2 free nights, which can be great value at some of their high-end InterContinental properties!
Marriott is running their MegaBonus promotion, which are also targeted with different offers depending on your history. You can register by November 15th (here) for stays through January 15th, 2016. It was unattractive for me, requiring 15 nights to earn extra points but an easy double points for Mrs K!
Starwood is running the “Stay More. Earn More.” points promotion: Register by December 6th and stay by December 20th to earn 2x points on stays of 2 or more nights and an extra 500 points for stays of 3 or more nights. Even though Starwood points are very valuable – that’s only $12 extra for a stay of 3 or more nights, so good if you are planning to stay anyway, but probably not worth redirecting your hotel spend.

Good luck with this week’s airline and hotel deals and hope you can save a little on your next trip!
