Cape Town without breaking the bank – Park Inn Foreshore

We chose the Park Inn Cape Town Foreshore for part of our stay in Cape Town, one of my favorite cities, prior to our to Southern Africa adventure  . We wanted to maximize the value of our Club Carlson points and chose it mostly because of it belonging to the Carlson family of hotels.  While we were much more excited about the second part of our stay in Cape Town at the Radisson Blu Waterfront, the Park Inn was a very pleasant surprise and a bargain to boot! This is a great option to stay at a reasonable price in a good location, using or earning points in the process!

Screen Shot 2015-02-02 at 12.26.29 PMLocation: The Park Inn is centrally located, with access to downtown as well as the Western Seaboard. While we had a car to explore the Cape, it is feasible to stay here without a car. We felt safe walking around the area day and night and many of the sights are only a short taxi ride away. The hotel is on a busy city street, but we had no issue with traffic noise.

Hotels/Amenities: The Park Inn has a small lobby of the street, with the main restaurant off to the side. There is also a rooftop bar next to the pool with nice views. We didn’t try the bar or restaurant. There’s also a small fitness room to stick with your workout routine! The hotel offers indoor parking for a fee – the entrance is at the back, through a public parking lot and a little tricky to find! The hotel is built with a large atrium in the middle from ground floor to top floor, accessing the rooms from the open hallways. While that makes for a nice atmosphere, the sound from the restaurant at the bottom and the bar at the top travels and one of our fellow travelers complained about the noise in her room. Our room was quiet, so inquire with the front desk, if you are sensitive to noise!

Rooms: We stayed for three nights and had booked a regular room. Despite using Club Carlson reward points, we were upgraded to a very large (44sqm) Business Class room. It had a queen bed and sleeper sofa that would work great for a family! The room was held in dark colors with modern decor and was outfitted with a flat screen TV, safe and mini bar/fridge. The bathroom was also much larger than I’d expect, making it a comfortable stay. The bed, linens, towel and toiletries were all of good quality.

Service:  The service was exceptionally friendly and competent.  Check-in and out was quick and efficient. A lot of mid-level hotels are thinly staffed, leaving the staff rushing around. Not so here – the staff took time to address questions, special request was handled promptly and without issue. The service team made this stay very enjoyable.

If you have a short stay in Cape Town on business or leisure, the Park Inn is a good option and I’d stay here again! The rates are reasonable and it’s a bargain using Club Carlson points! The downtown location does not necessarily show Cape Town on its best – so if you are here on vacation, I’d choose a different location to make the most out of your time in one of my favorite cities!
