Budget hotels done right – ibis overview

I have seen ibis hotels a lot more often than I have staid at them. They are the budget brand of the Accor Group and you will find them all over Europe and increasingly in Asia. My Power of Promotion run (read more here) brought me to two ibis hotels in a week, so find out more about them below:

So, who are they?

ibis is the budget brand of the Accor Group and with about 1,800 hotels world wide, makes up 50% of all Accor hotels! The ibis brand is split into the regular ibis hotels, ibis styles (formerly all season) and ibis budget (formerly Etap). Accor consolidated three of their brands, with ibis styles being a little more fashionable.

In their own words, “ibis offers you the ultimate comfort: a new innovative bedding…, a comfortable and well equipped room, modern and design welcome areas. caring and efficient, ibis ensures the highest level of service of its category: a 24h reception, breakfast from 4:00am to midday, light meals served round the clock and a non-stop bar.

So, why should I care?

ibis will provide you with a clean and modern room, basic amenities and breakfast at a bargain price. It’s usually hard to find a better offer at their price point in the places they are. So, if a comfortable bed for the night, a good shower, a safe for your valuables and a breakfast in the morning is all you need, ibis is a good choice. The rooms and bathrooms are small, but surprisingly functional and very well designed, with ample storage (including under the bed) a well-lit work area and a safe. They have implemented their brand guidelines pretty tightly, similar to Marriott, so there won’t be any surprises. Within a country or region, they are so similar, you might not remember which town you are in, if you have staid at a few different ones in a row.

The ibis hotels participate in the Accor frequent guest program, LeClub. You earn points at half the rate of the more upscale brands, but you do get stay and night credit towards promotions (for example this one) and towards elite status.
