Best dinner experience on Bali – The Breeze at Samaya

The Breeze at Samaya is rated as one of the top restaurants on Bali and the best one I’ve eaten at on the island! The beautiful, ocean side setting, fantastic service and delicious food making it a great choice for a special occasion when good is just not enough and it has to be perfect!

I was fortunate enough to be invited to celebrate a special occasion at the Breeze Restaurant and what a treat it was. The restaurant is located inside the Samaya Villas Resort at the Northern end of Seminyak. You enter the resort and your first view is of the stunning pool and the beach and ocean beyond!

The restaurant is open air and the tables are set in a single row along the beachfront and far enough apart, making each table very private. Flags and lanterns decorate the beach as well as the pool, providing just enough light. The tables are decked out with heavy linen and a silk cover to set a luxurious ambiance. Little reading lights are provided with the heavy menu booklets for easier reading.

I’m used to the very friendly service common at restaurants and hotels around Bali, but the Breeze at Samaya goes a step beyond. The staff is not only friendly, but very well trained and professional, delivering exceptional service throughout your dining experience. We were welcomed by a friendly hostess and, despite being way early for our reservation, were seated immediately without issues. Serving staff presented the menu and was very knowledgeable, able to advise on the food selection and wine list as needed. We selected a bottle of red wine with our meal and it was presented in a metal carrier, opened at the table for tasting and served at the proper temperature. Good wine is not easy to find on Bali, but I’m sure the wine list at the Breeze will satisfy even more demanding tastes.

As an amuse bouche, a shrimp paste on pastry was offered and a bread basket with tasty garlic butter was served. We selected a Caesar salad and tuna sashimi as our appetizers. The Caesar salad was very fresh, served with bread, parmesan and bacon bits – the quality of the ingredients stood out.

My tuna sashimi was equally fresh and of high quality, served on a stone plate, with wasabi, soy sauce and ginger offered on a separate plate. I’m generally careful to order raw fish in hot destinations, but wouldn’t hesitate to order it again here!

We both ordered the large steak of Australian beef and both were very tender and cooked to perfection. This was the best steak I’ve ever had in South East Asia, both with regards to the quality of the meat used and the preparation! I don’t think I’ll be ordering steak for a while, anything else is likely to disappoint.

As our dessert, we shared the creme brulee, which was served in two different flavors, a traditional and a pandan-flavored, with a scoop of ice cream. It was nicely presented and very tasty, even though the pandan-flavored won’t be my favorite.

We ordered two glasses of port to close our dinner and to give you an idea of the depth of the wine list, there were three port to choose from, when you’ll have a hard time finding any at many other Bali restaurants.

I rarely wax and wane about restaurants, but the Breeze at Samaya has earned its top rating for Bali restaurants and it is just fantastic. If you are celebrating a special occasion or are on your honeymoon, you should make the Breeze at Samaya your destination – it comes at a price, but it will certainly be a memorable evening! It certainly was for me!
