A new dining option in San Francisco’s Castro District – Lark Food & Wine

San Francisco is one of my favorite cities in the world – and the great food from all corners of the world is one of the reasons for it! While you can find great restaurants all over the city, the Castro neighborhood isn’t very high on the list for foodies and mostly has basic food options and lots of bars! Fortunately, a more recent addition offers great food in a nice space without any of the lines or waits many of the hyped new entries often come with: Lark Food & Wine!

Lark is located on 18th Street, between Castro and Hartford, in a small space on the ground floor. It has been nicely renovated with a big bar at the hear of it and tables in front and back. The room has concrete-finish floors and rough, natural wood tables, with some accent colors thrown in, for a modern look. There is seating around the bar, tables with buffet seating in the back and two large, wooden tables in the front – we had one of those and were happy with it!

Screen Shot 2015-05-29 at 12.13.09 PMLark offers Mediterranean food and a long, well selected wine list at reasonable prices, at least for San Francisco. We started the evening of with a bottle of Prosecco (from a list of four sparkling wines), a nice choice at a good price. We shared the Prosciutto Melon and Charcuterie Board, both well presented and very tasty. I selected the Lark Burger with a side of truffle fries and it was delicious: The burger was hand-made with high-quality meat, topped with burrata cheese! Upgrading to the truffle fries was a good idea – everything is better with truffle oil and after everybody tried them, we ordered some extra! We also ordered a salad, the gnocchi, lamb skewers, the Rib Eye Steak and the Opera Cake – all the dishes were tasty and everybody was happy with their choices! The long wine list (available by glass and bottle) as well as the cocktail list nicely complemented the food and contributed to a great evening out! You can find their complete menu and wine list here. The service was friendly, quick and attentive, which is quickly becoming a rarity in booming San Francisco.

I’m sure we’ll be back and if you are looking for a good place to eat in San Francisco’s Castro area, you should add Lark Food & Wine to your list!
