If you want to treat a loved one to a little luxury in Manila, visiting the Peninsula Hotel for afternoon tea is a great choice. You’ll spend time in one of the most opulent hotel lobbies in the city, experience great service and have a choice of wonderful food and of course tea for a lovely afternoon! It should make anybody feel quite special!
The Pensinsula Hotel is one of the first luxury hotels in Manila and, despite its age, is still a standout hotel. And even if a stay at the hotel might not be in your budget, you can enjoy the excellent service and great ambiance during a visit to their afternoon tea! The restaurant is located in the grand lobby, with its very high ceiling, beautiful chandeliers and artwork all around. It’s classic and classy luxury, without being overdone, and the perfect setting for the old tradition of afternoon tea! While restaurants in Manila can get very noisy, there is a hushed silence in this grand lobby.
The Peninsula staff is very friendly and as well trained as you’ll find anywhere in the Philippines. You’ll be seated promptly, led to your table and provided with the menu. You have the choice of a wide selection of teas, small tea snacks or a full buffet of food, snacks and dessert. Of course there is a wide array of other drinks, including champagne available.
The buffet offers afternoon tea classics like small sandwiches (British-style, not US) or scones, but also other pastries, cold cuts and cheese and more hearty, warm dishes, so this could replace be a late lunch or early dinner! There is also a full dessert buffet with my all-time favorite, a chocolate fountain. Everything is better with chocolate and champagne!
Even after three years of living in Manila, the contrast still amazes me: You can be transported in seconds from the maddening, noisy chaos that is Manila traffic to the serene luxury of the Peninsula Afternoon Tea in seconds and relax. The wonderful ambiance, excellent service and great food & drink selection create a luxury experience that can be the perfect treat for a loved one, the perfect setting for a business meeting, a break from the madness or the icing on a vacation. All of that comes at a price, but it’s still good value compared to other luxury experiences in Asia or around the world and I’d recommend it for special occasions!
