The Westin Hotel Experience – what to expect!

Westin is an upscale, full-service hotel chain in the Starwood portfolio. They got my attention years ago when they introduced their “Heavenly Bed”, one of the most comfortable beds you could find in a hotel at that time. and makes up almost half of all Hilton properties around the world! Find out, what they have to offer beyond the “Heavenly Bed” and what can you expect – read my overview after the break!

So, who are they? With more than 200 hotels worldwide, Westin is the second largest brand in the Starwood portfolio and you will find them all around the world. They are positioned above the more common Sheraton hotels, but below the luxury St. Regis or Luxury Collection properties.
In their own words, “Westin provides innovative programs and instinctive services designed with our guests’ well-being in mind. Indulge in a deliciously wholesome menu, including exclusive SuperFoodsRx ® dishes. Energize in the fitness studio with the industry-leading WestinWORKOUT ® . Revive in the Heavenly ® Bath where luxurious touches create a spa-like experience. And of course, experience truly restorative sleep in the world-renowned Heavenly ® Bed—an oasis of lush sheets, down, and patented pillow-top mattress. Whether an epic city center location or a refreshing resort destination, Westin ensures guests leave feeling better than when they arrived. Westin. For A Better You.
Starwood is certainly one of the more creative hotel management companies out there and they have done a better job than most to define and differentiate their hotels. Westin was a leader with the Heavenly Beds – and much of the industry followed!
Just recently, Marriott made a bid to acquire the Starwood group, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens with Westin and the other 18 (!) full-service brands in the combined portfolio!

From my personal experience, I’d consider the Westin hotels a more stylish alternative to Hilton or Marriott branded hotels. While they lack the splash of their corporate brethren from the W brand, the rooms are more contemporary and less “loud”. They have done a much better job with brand standards than at the Sheraton brand, so you are not likely to be surprised by a sub-standard Westin hotel – if you like one Westin room, you’ll probably like the next Westin room as well.
Their programs to offer Heavenly Bed/Bath and the Westin Workout also puts them ahead of other chains with regards to their offerings for their well being! Despite many hotels improving their beds, the Heavenly Bed is still one of my favorite beds for a good night’s sleep, from the super-soft bed linen to the comfy mattress!. The bathroom amenities and towels are of similar high-quality, so you’ll be all around comfortable. And the Westin gyms have been upgraded to allow a full workout – and  not just provide a sad, old treadmill in a dark room, like many other hotels. And of course, as an upscale hotel chain, you can expect a pool and gym as well as restaurants, business center and full service attention from bell boys to concierges.
Overall, my experience with Westin has been very positive without any disappointments over the years. While I was a business traveler, they were one of my preferred brands in the US!

Westin participates in the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Rewards program, so you can earn and use your hotel points at over 1,200 properties worldwide. Starwood has the highest
