Every (Northern) winter, the big hotel companies launch sales and promotions to fill their rooms in the slow times after the New Year and they can offer great value as you have seen with my successful promotion participation. In summer, the hotels tend to be full and the promotions level off. Some chains, like Marriott, are not offering anything for the summer, others very little. So, if you haven’t booked your summer trips yet, here are the companies that offer the best promotions for the summer in my book:
Accor has been on a roll with their promotions. My most recent participation (read here) earned me $180 for a hotel spend of less than $170 – a great deal! With their latest promotion, for 3 stays of at least 2 nights you earn 10,000 points worth $215 (200EUR) – and make Gold status in their LeClub program to boot! The first stay earns you 1,000 points, the second 4,000 and the third 5,000 points for a total of 10,000! You have to book by May 31, 2015 and stay by August 31, 2015 and can sign up for the promotion here. I have, even though I’m not sure I can fit three 2-night stays with Accor into my current travel plans.
SPG has, for the first time in many years, target me for one of their promotions. I have not had a paid stay at a Starwood hotel in a while, so the promo email aptly started with “we want you back”! It offers 1,500 points for the first paid stay, 2,500 for the second and 3,500 for the third, for a grand total of 7,500 points. You have to register by the end of June and complete your stays by the end of July to earn. Because it is a targeted offer, not everybody is eligible or will be offered the same number of points, but you can check here! The nice thing about this promotion is that even the first stay will get you a good bonus and you don’t have to make it all the way through the end!
IHG rounds out our summer hotel promotion review with its latest “Share Forever” promotion in cooperation with Coca Cola. The IHG promotion is again tailored to each participant, offering different rewards based on your stay history. While I had great success with their “Into the Nights” promotion recently (read here), earning two free nights anywhere in the world (I will be using them in New York!), the follow-up promo was much less rewarding and I passed. The complicated promos are also plagued by IHG’s horrendous IT systems, causing all kinds of problems in actually getting the expected points. In this round, I will earn 1,000 points for my first night and a total of 9,000 points for my target of 7 nights. I also can earn more points for staying more than that, with it really getting interesting at 17 nights, earning a total of 71,000 points, and a cap at 27 nights for 131,000 points. Another aspect, as the name suggests, is that you can share some of the points with other people, allowing them to go on a points vacation, too. You can see my offer in detail below and can check your own offer here.
So, despite the high-priced summer ahead of us, there are some very good promotions around to make your future dream trip more affordable – good luck and safe travels!
