The American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp card issued by Citibank is a no-fee credit card that offers a sign-up bonus of 10,000 AAdvantage miles and $50 statement credit for signing up and you can earn miles with every purchase! The miles-earning and benefits are better than the AAdvantage Bronze card it replaces and other no-fee cards, making it a solid choice!
If you are new to this site, please read “how we evaluate credit cards”. Citibank’s AA MileUp card is available for US Residents with good credit.
American Advantage is the rewards program of American Airlines. It was the first and still is one of the largest loyalty programs in the world. Being able to earn extra miles with daily purchases without paying an annual fee is an interesting proposition. Here is a quick summary of the AA MileUp card:
- Sign-up bonus of 10,000 points + $50 statement credit, worth about US$200 in total
You receive 10,000 points and a $50 statement credit after spending only US$500 in the first 90 days from signing up. - Earn Points for Spend
You earn 2 points for every US$ spent on American Airlines and at grocery stores and 1 point per US$ spent for everything else - 25% discount on in-flight food & beverages
You safe 25% of inflight purchases of food and drink on domestic flights operated by AA and affiliated, regional airlines. WiFi and other onboard purchases are not included. - no annual fee, 3% foreign exchange fee, EMV chip & signature2
The AAdvantage MileUp card is issued by Citibank and is the lowest of three American Airlines mileage earning cards. I have reviewed the AA Platinum Card previously!
How I see it: The current sign-up bonus of 10,000 plus $50 is not breath-taking, but very good for a no-fee card and higher than the uber Vica card or United no-fee Visa card! The minimum spend of $500 to earn the bonus is low and competitive.
Earning points is doubled from the previous card at 2 miles per $1 on AA flights – that’s competitive for a no-fee airline or hotel card, but still not as good as cashback cards like the Citi DoubleCash!
25% onboard discount on food & beverages: If you are mainly traveling for leisure in Economy on domestic flights, this can help. I tend to prefer eating before or after short domestic flights, rather than onboard, so your mileage may vary from this benefit.
Fees: Without an annual fee, this card is a good “introductory” card. The 3% Foreign Exchange fee eliminates it from consideration for international travelers. The card uses Chip & Signature for safety.
Bottomline: The American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp card offers solid sign-up bonus and earnings potential for a no-fee card, making this a good introductory offer for people who don’t like the idea of annual fees and mostly travel on domestic AA flights. If you are traveling internationally, or want additional perks like free luggage or priority boarding, consider the AA Platinum Card instead!

I do not receive a commission for this card – I recommend it because I believe it’s a great deal.
