The European low-cost carrier Norwegian Air has launched the longest flight of any budget airline with new service from London Gatwick airport to Singapore. Fares are starting from only £149 one-way, introducing the ultra-low fares that have radically changed transatlantic air travel to the Pacific! The daily flight will be operated on a Boeing B787 Dreamliner and fares are widely available in the winter months!
Norwegian Air has grown rapidly over the last few years, launching route after route between Europe and North America, with fares as low as $69. Now, they are turning their eyes towards Asia and are starting service between London and Singapore, a city that’s perfect for first-time visitors to Asia – I call it Singapore, Asia for Beginners!
Flights leave London Gatwick at 10:50 in the morning and the 12h40min flight arrives in Singapore at 7:30 in the morning the next day. The return flights leave Singapore at 22:50 at night and arrive in London at 5:00 the morning of the next day, after a 14h10min flight West.
Norwegian Air is deploying their Boeing B787 Dreamliner on this route, configured with their Premium Economy (2-3-2 layout) and Economy (3-3-3) cabins. Prices for Economy start at £149 one-way with many flights available below £200 over the next few months.
As always with Norwegian, that is only for your seat with 10kg of carry-on luggage – checked bags, seat assignments and food cost extra. They can be purchased as “Low Fare+” bundle for £50 each way. Prices for Premium Economy start at £699, which gets you a wider seat with more legroom and recline, as well as 2 checked bags, food, fast track and lounge access at the airport.
These fares work best for a short trip for anybody able to fly with carry-on only. Read my Top 10 Tips to Pack Light to find out how you can travel 1-2 weeks with hand carry only!
They also work great for anybody needing a one-way ticket – I was looking at this option when bankrupt airberlin cancelled my flight!
While the Premium Economy cabin looks much more comfortable, at prices of £1,400 for a round trip you can frequently find business class tickets between Europe and Asia, including a flat bed – a much better option!
I’d love to try this sometime soon and will keep you posted on the experience. You can check out the options and book here!
