Kuching has a number of budget hotels in the city, like the clean, safe and simple Tune Hotel just steps from the river promenade. Because you have a lot of nature activities on your agenda, you check into the budget hotel for the first night. You start with a walk of Kuching, a city with character, enjoy the promenade along the river and, if you are interested in the history of the city, check out the Sarawak Museum.
On your second day, you take the public bus to the Semenggoh Wildlife Center to see Orang Utans up close and personal. They share more than 97% of our DNA – and you can see quickly yourself as you observe them and they observe you!
Your second day takes you on a tour of the Bako National Park, reached quickly by bus and boat, yet far removed from city life. With a little luck, you’ll see proboscis monkeys or silver leaf monkeys – or even a snake from a safe distance. After hiking through the park, you’ll get a break on the beach before heading back to Kuching.
Your next day gives you another shot at seeing rare animals in their natural habitat, with a Kuching Wetlands cruise. You have a chance to see rare dolphins, crocodiles, monkeys or, at nightfall, fireflies! It’s very relaxing to see wildlife from the comforts of your boat!
