Alaska Airlines Promotion: Up to 50% Mystery Bonus on purchased points

Alaska Airlines caught my attention with their frequent sales of miles and the great value in redeeming miles for premium cabin flights with their partners. Currently, you can get up to a 50% bonus when purchasing miles, so you can top up your account for the dream trip. Make sure to check your own account – it’s another “mystery bonus” promotion and the bonus can be 35-50%. Good luck!

Alaska Airlines MileagePlan loyalty program has earned a lot of fans through their frequent sales of miles at reasonable prices and to use those miles on their partner airlines. I purchased miles for the first time last year to top up my account and used these points for a First Class flight on Cathay Pacific from San Francisco to Asia. At only 70,000 miles one-way, you can even purchase all the miles and still fly First Class for less than a business class ticket on that route would cost! Business Class on Cathay Pacific is only 50,000 miles on that route – half of what an award ticket with United would cost!

The promotion runs through August 31, 2019 and the bonus is staggered based on the number of miles you purchase. You need to purchase at least 40,000 miles for the maximum bonus. The best price at 50% bonus is 1.97ct/mile. I value AlaskaAir miles at less than that and wouldn’t purchase them speculatively. I recommend to check availability of the flights you desire (and available cash fares) first to check if this is a good deal for you or not. Once you have confirmed availability, you have to be quick to buy the miles and book! You can check your own mystery bonus here!

I’m not a fan of those “mystery bonus” promotions. In the current promotion, my maximum bonus is 40%. Knowing that other people have a 50% bonus and that a similar promotion/bonus will be around soon, I won’t be buying and rather wait for a better deal next time. I would recommend the same for you, if you don’t have a 50% bonus and don’t need the points urgently.
