Dream Trip Itinerary Cambodia: 2 weeks of city fun, ancient temples and beach relaxation in comfort from Europe

If you are living in Europe and want to avoid the more popular destinations in South East Asia, Cambodia is a great alternative: you can see Angkor Wat, one of the most amazing historic sights  in the world, relax on uncrowded, white sand beaches and have some fun in the bustling cities of the region – all in great comfort and for less than you’d spend in Europe!

Region: Asia

Cambodia is well connected to the main airport hubs in the region, but requires stop-overs from Europe. You are likely to connect through cities like Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong – and all are worth a (repeat) visit, rather than just a connection at the airport. I suggest that you spend 2 nights at the beginning and end of your trip to aclimatize to the region in one (or two) of these cities and see even more of Asia!

From there, you make your way to Siem Reap to see the ancient temples and cities of Angkor. They are one of my top historic destinations around the world. The city had a million inhabitants at a time when London only had 50,000 and the temples are an amazing sight to behold. But beyond the main temples covered in every guide, there are a lot of smaller, more remote sites worth exploring, worth spending four nights in the area!

As more people have discovered this gem, flights to Siem Reap, your base to explore Angkor Wat, have become cheap and low-cost carriers serve it from most major cities in the region. The Rambutan Resort close to the old town makes it easy to explore the temples by day and the nightlife and food scene in the evenings! If you want to rely on a big brand, the Le Meridien Angkor is an upscale and reliable choice! You can check prices for hotels in Siem Reap here!

After 4 days of exploring Khmer history and enjoying the nightlife, you fly to Sihanoukville to relax  for 4 days on Cambodia’s best beaches. You’ll find the best mix of tropical beach paradise and good value at Otres 2 Beach, with hotels like White Boutique Hotel, Secret Garden Hotel, Naia, Tamu or Ren Resorts. You reach your last stop, the capital Phnom Penh, by Giant Ibis bus and have two days to check out the Royal Palace, sample the local nightlife or do some last minute gift-shopping.

Your stay at the Blue Lime Hotel allows you to walk to all the major sights, stroll to the river promenade for sunset or eat and party at the many restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. If you are tired from all the action, the Blue Lime has a great resort pool that lets you forget that you are in a bustling city! You can check prices for hotels in Phnom Penh here!
