Promotion Success: One free night with Wyndham Rewards

I receive so many promotional emails advertising one hotel campaign or the other, it’s hard to find promotions that are worth pursuing. How do you get the most out of rewards promotions? How can you leverage planned hotel stays to earn free nights or points? Today I’ll share an example how I picked a high-value promotion and chose hotels to earn it!

Wyndham Rewards has been rated the most rewarding hotel reward program and my research confirmed that. Their latest promotion is a great example for it: You can earn 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points, enough for one free night at any Wyndham Hotel or 1-bedroom condo worldwide and worth $150 with only two stays at any of almost 9,000 hotels.

A stay-based promotion with a fixed reward like here works best for short stays at cheap hotels to earn outsized rewards. For a recent trip of the German Eastsea Coast, I chose two Wyndham hotels for one night stays to qualify for the promotion.
My first stay was at the Wyndham Garden Inn Wismar, near the state capital of Schwerin. For a rate of $78/night I got a midscale room at a property on the edge of town with a nice pool and gym; a big breakfast buffet was included and service was very friendly by slightly grumpy German standards.

For the second stay I picked the Wyndham Stralsund HanseDom. It’s located near the water park HanseDom with discounted access. It’s technically a 4-star property, but older with whimsical rooms, paid parking and breakfast and poor service. It cost $88/night.

Those two stays with a total cost of $166 earned me 1,000 points per stay in regular points, as well as the 15,000 promotion bonus, for a total of 17,000 points. The points posted within 2 days of my stay. They are worth an average of $170. I earned a reward higher than the cost of my hotel stays – which is an outstanding reward!
Because Wyndham Rewards can be used at all Wyndham properties and Vacation Rentals, I was able to make four nights reservations later this year with an average cash price of over $400. That’s exceptional value earned with this promotion!

To earn this great reward, I had to make some compromises: Neither of the two hotels was ideal for my travel plans, as they were a little out of town and I prefer to be able to walk around from my hotel. That was a compromise I was willing to make for a promotion bonus this big.

Dolce Silverado Resort & Spa, Napa Valley, California

Bottomline: Wyndham Rewards offers some great promotions. If you are willing to stay at a mediocre hotel, you can easily earn a free night at a great hotel like the Silverado Resort in Napa that I’m looking forward to visiting later this year!
