JW Marriott Hotel Experience – What to expect?

JW Marriott is one of the luxury brands in Marriotts large portfolio of hotels. With only 75 properties worldwide, it represents less than 2% of Marriott hotels. It’s named after J. Willard Marriott, who founded the company in 1927! Being named after the founder comes with a special responsibility to uphold the brand and showcase the best Marriott has to offer! Read on to find out who they are and what you can expect!

JWMarriottMedan BedSo, who are they? Even though Marriott got started in 1927, the first JW Marriott hotel was opened 1984 in Washington DC.  Since then, it has grown to 75 properties. Interestingly, while Marriott has more than 80% of their properties in the Americas, for JW Marriott it is only 50% with a much higher share of 36% in Asia Pacific. You’ll find them even in unusual places like Medan, Indonesia, or Baku, Azerbaijan!
In their own words, JW Marriott Hotels “are warmly authentic, putting guests at ease in an environment of relaxed elegance and effortless luxury. Reflecting their locale, they provide quietly luxurious, though purposeful and meaningful, services that help travelers achieve their personal goals and advance their ambitions without distraction or disruption, resulting in a rare harmony of beautifully delivered experiences where the primary purpose is the guests’ over-all well-being.” and they are targeting “sophisticated, self-assured travelers who seek a hotel experience that embodies confident sophistication without pretense. They value authenticity and expect highly crafted experiences that are anticipatory and artfully delivered.”
That’s probably one of the better marketing descriptions I have found for hotel brands and gives you a reasonably good idea of what to expect!

JWMarriottMedan BathWhat experience can I expect? The JW Marriott hotels are a step up from the regular Marriott hotels you find all around the world. They are luxury hotels that cater to wealthy travelers with a more traditional taste, and compete with Hilton’s Conrad brand or the Park Hyatt hotels. They are not as stylish as Starwood’s Westin or W brands.
As a full-service luxury hotel, you can expect all the services and amenities. You will find full business centers to get work done or luxurious spas, fitness centers and pools for leisure trips. There are also Executive Lounges for more private settings, especially interesting for elite members in Marriott’s Reward program. You can also expect a large team of staff to cater to your every whim, from bell boys and concierges to front desk, housekeeping and lounges. The onsite restaurants and bars will be equally upscale, in setting, menu and pricing!
I’ve recently stayed at the JW Marriott hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Medan and they certainly delivered on this expectation. The JW Marriott Medan was the most luxurious hotel in the city, offering stately rooms and outstanding service. While it was expensive for local standards, it was a bargain compared to luxury hotels elsewhere and a great way to treat yourself to a luxurious stay!
JW Marriott are part of the Marriott Rewards program. With more than 4,250 hotels worldwide, there are lots of options to earn points. And the JW Marriott properties are a great way to redeem those points for an aspirational stay on a special occasion!
