Dinner with good background music in Ubud – Kafe Bunute

On one of our evening walks through Ubud, we found Kafe Bunute on a side street, a short walk from Ubud Palace. What drew us in was the live music – a guy was playing on the guitar and his mostly slow cover songs made for a great backdrop for our dinner!

Kafe Bunute is located on Jalan Dewisita and you can reach it from Ubud Palace via the market or past the soccer field on Jalan Wenara Wana. It’s set back from the street in a quiet corner, with tables set in separated spaces from the street all the way back in an open air setting. We picked a table in the back on the side patio, making for a private feel despite the busy restaurant.
KafeBunuteMapThe service was friendly, quick and attentive – the host led us into the restaurant, assisted with the table and brought menus immediately. Our order was taken quickly and wine was on the table a short time after, followed by the food in the appropriate sequence (not always a sure thing in Asia!).
The menu is a little bit of everything: You can find soups and salads, as well as some local dishes and a mix of sandwiches, Mexican fare and Italian pizza and pasta. While I’m generally not a fan of restaurants “specializing in everything”, it does give you the chance to make up your mind what you feel like after selecting the restaurant – especially helpful for larger groups. They do have a selection of soft drinks, cocktails, beer and wine to go with the food.
We picked a shared salad to start, two pasta dishes for the main course and a chocolate mousse for dessert, combined with a bottle of wine! All of it was good, but what made Kafe Bunute worth a recommendation were the nice ambience and the good music. If the food doesn’t excite you, you can always just go for a drink and the music, a very good option!
