SkyTrax has awarded Singapore’s Changi Airport the trophy of Best Airport in the World 2019, surprising nobody. It’s Changi’s seventh consecutive win as the best airport and a sign of its popularity with travelers. Changi is not only the most efficient airport I’ve used, it also has a stunning offer of services that will make a layover go by in no time and even invites people to go to the airport extra early – that’s not something you’ll say about many airports.

While many airports these days have lots of shopping to offer and nice lounges, what sets Changi apart is the great services and entertainment available to all travelers. With games and play areas for kids, massages and a tropical garden, there is a lot to spend your time.

What keeps Changi Airport at the top of the rankings is the continuous investment and improvement of the facilities. Just recently the new Terminal 4 opened, replacing the budget airline terminal. It’s designed for a fully automated experience, with check-in kiosks, automated baggage drop-off and immigration and facial recognition to even allow automated boarding gates. And Singapore’s airport authority is not taking the foot of the gas: The new Jewel building is opening later this month, featuring the largest indoor waterfall in the world. And while the design and waterfall will get most of the attention, frequent travelers will appreciate features like the well-designed ride-hailing pick up area that’s already in operation!
