Luxury with a view – Radisson Blu Waterfront, Cape Town

We went to Cape Town to meet friends from the other side of the world and also to start our Southern Africa adventure (read more here). We booked the Radisson Blu Waterfront as a treat and that’s exactly what it turned out to be – a real treat of a hotel! It’s in a great location on the Waterfront and offers luxurious rooms and great service!

Location: The Radisson Blu is in a beautiful ocean front location in the Waterfront area of Cape Town (read more here). It’s a lengthy walk to the shopping at Victoria & Alfred’s Waterfront, but we had a car to tour Cape Town and this was a great base – easy to get to and relatively quiet! If you are relying on public transportation, this is not a convenient spot! Having an ocean front spot gives many of the rooms, the pool area and restaurant breathtaking views over the ocean at sunset – if you are not staying here, check it out for sunset cocktails!

RBW BalconyHotel/Amenities: You enter the hotel via an open, airy lobby with a large atrium leading to the rooms and the restaurant and ocean as a backdrop. There is plenty of parking outside and below the hotel. We tried the restaurant and bar for breakfast and sunset drinks/dinner, and enjoyed all of our meals. The quality of the food was very good and service friendly. The prices were comparable to other waterfront locations, so worth it if you want to enjoy the views. The hotel has a pool, health club and spa. Unfortunately, the hotel was under renovation during our stay, so the pool was closed and we didn’t want to sign up for a massage with jack hammers as the background music! The pool area is pretty small, so not ideal if you are looking for a beach resort-style environment for kids to play. It’s more of a city destination hotel!

RBW LivingRooms: We were notified via email prior to arrival of ongoing construction – too late to change our reservation (made with Club Carlson points) and we were obviously not happy about it. On arrival, the manager informed us that we had been upgraded to an ocean facing room away from the construction to minimize the noise – and the room turned out to be a beautiful, humongous suite. The bedroom was separated, but with folding, open doors to the sitting area and floor-to-ceiling glass doors to the balcony, overlooking the pool and ocean. The decor was in light, scandinavian colors, together with the light from the big windows, making for a very airy atmosphere. The bathroom was equally large, making for a very generous home away from home! These suites are stunning and certainly made us happy – this is one of the few times I’d recommend to go for the upgrade to “business class rooms” at Radisson Blu, well worth it!. We were out most of the day and had little impact from the construction, but it was very noisy as they were using jackhammers for extended periods. If you are planning on some day-time naps, you should verify that the construction is over. The rooms were equipped with a large TV, mini bar/fridge, safe and my favorite, a Nespresso machine. The quality of linens, towels and bathrobes as well as toiletries was very high, as you’d expect in this price class.

RBW WelcomeService: The service was impeccable throughout our stay. We were welcomed by the front desk manager and she followed up later to ensure our satisfaction! The check-in was quick and staff was very responsive to any requests we had. The restaurant staff was equally professional and friendly, making the stay all-around enjoyable. You could tell that the hotel was very well managed and there was little left to chance. The hotel operation was running smoothly, despite the disruption of ongoing construction.

Overall, there is very little I’d want to see change for this hotel – beautiful rooms, stunning views and great service. It’s a great base to explore the Cape region as a tourist, I’d return on a future trip and recommend it without hesitation!
