Review: Silverado Resort & Spa Napa – luxurious Dolce Resort and great Wyndham Rewards stay!

The Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa Valley is a Dolce Resort owned by Wyndham Hotels. It offers large suites in a resort setting with a gold course, tennis courts, spa, gym and fine dining for a luxurious getaway to the wine country North of San Francisco. Considering the large suites, wealth of amenities and location, it’s great value with Wyndham Rewards and one of the best redemptions in the program. Read my full review to find out if you should plan your next wine country getaway here!

Location: The Silverado Resort & Spa Napa is located about 15 minutes outside of Napa town, along the Silverado Trail. The complex is spread out over a large area, consisting of the main hotel building, amenities buildings, cottages and villages spread around the golf course and woods. The ride from San Francisco downtown is about 1h 15 minutes and the trip from San Francisco Airport or Sacramento Airport will take about 1h 30 minutes. You’ll want a (rental) car to get here as well as to explore Napa and the wine country! I found the location ideal to both explore the countless wineries in Napa Valley, as well as to head into Napa Town to check out the restaurants, bars and shops there.

Service: The Silverado Resort is a full-service property and bell staff welcomed us in front of the main hotel building, directing us to the reception. The reception was busy, but the wait was short. The front desk staff was friendly and processed our check-in quickly. He provided all the necessary information for the resort, including a map and an overview of the amenities.
Housekeeping did a thorough job each day to clean our room, restock amenities and replace towels as needed.
The restaurant staff was friendly and professional, both when ordering room service and when dining at The Grill.
The experience at The Spa was equally good, with the spa reception and therapists all being friendly and professional.
The overall service experience was very good and I’d consider it above average for a hotel of this category in Northern California, were service can be decidedly mixed.

Room: We had booked a 1 bedroom Suite Cottage King. The suite is located a few minutes drive from the main building in a row of single-story houses. There is covered parking at the house and it all feels more like residences than a hotel. The house was shared with one other room that was connected.
You enter into the living room, with the open kitchen near the door, followed by a dining area and living area. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a stove, oven, large fridge, microwave, dishwasher and coffee/tea facilities. The kitchen has a full set of dishes, glasses. Silverware and kitchen utensils, allowing for long-term stays. There is a dining table with four chairs to have meals.

The living room has a sitting area with sofa, two chairs and a coffee table.

Opposite the sitting area is a wood burning fireplace, with instructions to call staff to light it for you on request. Above the fireplace is a built-in flatscreen TV and next to it is a desk with task chair, so you’ll be able to get work done as needed.

The living room is next to large patio doors and windows, making it very bright. Our patio was facing the greens and reasonably private with trees around it. You’ll have two loungers as well as a set of chairs and table to enjoy the outdoor space.

Through a door, you’ll enter the large bedroom with a king bed at the center. The bed is made with high-end sheets, pillows and comforters and very comfortable.

You’ll get another TV as well as a padded chair in the corner and plenty of storage in open shelves and a closed wardrobe.

The bathroom is split between a vanity open to the bedroom, with a sink-in-countertop and plenty of space for your toiletries, and an enclosed bathroom with the toilet and walk-in-shower.

High-quality toiletries are provided in dispensers by the vanity as well as in the shower. The towels are thick and plush.

The Cottage 1 bedroom Suite is very large at 740sf (70sqm) and recently renovated. It’s held in beige and brown tones with a conservative decor. While the buildings are older, everything was meticulously maintained, clean and in good working order. The appliances were good quality and looked new and mostly unused.

Restaurant & Amenities: The Silverado Resort offers 24/7 room service and we tried it out for a lazy breakfast one morning. They offer a full breakfast menu and we ordered a selection of typical breakfast foods, including eggs and pancakes. The quality of the food was ok, prices were high, yet appropriate for the category of hotel. Food was delivered quickly, despite the long distances across the resort.
The hotel also has a casual market & bakery where you can pick up snacks, drinks, necessities as well as breakfast pastries, fruits, yogurt and coffee. I liked the quality of pastries better than the room service breakfast.

I also liked the outdoor seating around a fire pit, overlooking the lawn and main building, although some people might object to the loud music playing at the market.

We celebrated a special occasion at the Silverado Resort and booked a table at The Grill, the fine dining restaurant at the resort. We started the meal with tomatoes and burrata mozzarella – the cheese was excellent and the tomatoes fresh. For the main course we both ordered filet steaks, which were some of the best we had in a long time, great quality meat, very tender and cooked perfectly to order. We had a bottle of local Cabernet Sauvignon with our meal that was reasonably priced. We finished our meal with very good chocolate mousse and port wine. I’m not a big fan of hotel restaurants and was pleasantly surprised by The Grill at the Silverado Resort – the quality of food and service were excellent, making for a great special occasion dining experience! Prices were appropriate for Northern California and the quality of the restaurant.

The Silverado Resort has a staggering number of amenities. The headline feature is the associated golf course and club, including trainer sessions. There are also tennis courts, fi that’s more your game.

For a regular workout, there is a full-size fitness center located at the Spa, with a large selection of cardio equipment, weight machines and free weights, for a full workout just like at a professional gym. Next to the Spa is also a 25m, semi-olympic lap pool, so you can keep up with your swimming routine as well.

For a more leisurely afternoon, we opted for a massage treatment at The Spa. The facilities include separate wellness areas for men & women, each with sauna, steam room and jacuzzi tub to relax. The treatment rooms are well equipped with comfortable massage tables and a nice ambiance. Both of our therapists were very good, providing excellent massages. The pricing is appropriate for hotel spas in Northern California.

Spread out over the property are a number of pools. We had one pool next to the cottages, a large main pool near the main building, in addition to the lap pool at the spa.

There are additional pools exclusively for members, so you won’t hurt for choices and even though the hotel was sold out during peak season, the different areas were uncrowded and it was easy to find a lounger or chairs at your leisure.

If you want to leave your car behind and go wine tasting by bike the hotel offers a bike rental service, with a rack of modern bikes available near the main building.

Value & Rewards: The Silverado Resort & Spa is a Dolce Hotel, owned by Wyndham Hotels. The rate for the Cottage 1-bedroom Suite during our peak-season, weekday stay was $366, including taxes and a resort fee of $28.50. You can check the current prices for your dates here! We booked it as a Wyndham Rewards award stay for 15,000 points/night – a point value of 2.4 cents/point. I value Wyndham Rewards at 1cent/point, making this an excellent award redemption and great value! Napa Valley can be very expensive during peak season and the Silverado Resort is competitively prices, especially considering the size of the suites. I consider it one of the best point redemption values within Wyndham Rewards as well as for Napa across chains!

I am a Wyndham Rewards Gold member, but did not receive any recognition or benefits during this stay. While Wyndham Rewards posters are all over the lobby, staff still seems to be mostly unfamiliar with the elite benefits of the program.

Bottomline: The Silverado Resort & Spa Napa offers large, new suites and a huge selection of sports and amenities, making this a great getaway to the Wine Country. I like the resort setting in proximity to Napa Town, giving you the best of both worlds. The restaurant and spa allow you to turn your stay into a special treat without leaving the property. This is the single nicest Wyndham property I’ve ever stayed at and is one of the best redemption options I’ve found for Wyndham Rewards points. And even at cash prices, I’d consider it competitive and good value in a very expensive market. I’m sure to return on a future visit to Napa and wholeheartedly recommend it!
