Bali can get very busy during the dry season from June to August and if you want to get away from the crowds to enjoy nature, head North to Lake Batur. With Mount Batur on one side and even higher Mount Agung on the other, you get some dramatic views. If you really want to get away, you can join a group or hire a mountain guide to take you to the top of these mountains for even better views!

Rafflesia is considered the largest single flower of any plant on Earth, at least by weight, and I took these photos in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo! It takes 6-9 months from the bud in the upper left to flower – and the bloom only lasts 2-3 days, making this a very rare sighting, before it dies in the bottom right!
It’s easy to get around Sabah, cheap to stay and the wildlife is incredible – check out the Top 5 things to do!
I love road trips, especially when they offer you breathtaking views, and the Great Ocean Road in Australia’s Victoria State is one of my favorite driving trips in the world! It’s more than 200 km of road with beautiful beaches, stunning limestone stacks at the 12 Apostles and a history of shipwrecks! So, rent a nice car and go for … Continue reading →
Borneo is my favorite wildlife destination in Asia – watching our close cousins, the Orang Utan, or sneaking up on a snake are just as exhilarating as seeing a baby silver leaf monkey hiding in the trees! Climb Mt Kinabalu, learn about long houses or the last head hunters or relax on the beach – all possible on Borneo!
Namibia is one of the least populated countries on Earth and the Sossusvlei desert is the most remote region I have ever visited. It’s strikingly beautiful and very much worth the effort! I went as part of my Cape Town to Victoria Falls Adventure and highly recommend the trip!
One of my favorite national parks in the US is Yellowstone – from the reliable geysir Old Faithful to wildlife next to the roadside, there is so much to see, you’ll be sure to create memories for a lifetime! Read my review of Yellowstone for more photos and stories!
I love the energy of big cities – but I also need some peace & quiet to get away from the crowds. Yangon has a lot of parks and lakes in the city area to get away from the noise and my favorite place is Kandawgyi Lake. With a boardwalk around the peaceful lake, great views of the Shwedagon Pagoda … Continue reading →
I’m a city person and I enjoyed everyone of my visits to Boston – and I also enjoy getting away from the city for a relaxing weekend. On my most recent trip to the East Coast of the United States, we planned a road-trip along the Maine coastline to the North-East of Boston, a combination of the easy & close … Continue reading →
I have been to a number of wild life destinations and on safaris – but nothing felt as up-close and personal as driving around Kruger National Park in South Africa in my own car. I didn’t mind sharing the roads with the elephants – but another driver found out quickly that there is no point in arguing with these multi-ton giants!
