Fantastic Foto Friday: Private Beach near a busy city: Kota Kinabalu, Borneo

Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah, Northern Borneo, and a busy city with a population of around 500,000 people. And while most people us it as their base to explore the Orang Utans at Sepilok or the wildlife in the Danum Valley preservation area, you also can have the long, sandy beach of Tanjung Aru almost to yourself – a great place to relax after hiking Mt Kinabalu or exciting wildlife watching!

Fantastic Foto Friday: History, Food & Fun in Penang, Malaysia

George Town on Penang Island is one of my favorite cities in Malaysia: The colorful, multi-culturual city offers impressive cultural sights like Kek Lok Si Temple above, historic buildings like Town Hall and Fort Cornwallis from colonial times and the food & fun of the Old Town with lots of character. Add in the sandy beaches elsewhere on the island, and you have a complete vacation just a short flight from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore!
